Summer BID Members Meeting 
'Meet & Greet' August 16th

The Downtown Boston BID's Annual Summer Members Meeting will be on Wednesday, August 16th at Convene (One Boston Place). This is a great event to meet and greet Downtown Boston residents, business owners and employees, property owners and managers and more. 

This event is from 4 to 6 pm. This is a free event. Please RSVP to Doug Meyer at dmeyer@bostonbid.org or call 617-482-1641.  
District 2 City Council Candidates Forum 
July 26th

There will be a District 2 City Council Candidates Forum on Wednesday, July 26th at the Calderwood Pavilion (427 Tremont St.). The Downtown Boston BID is in District 2.

Sue O'Connell, co-publisher of Bay Windows and South End News and host of NECN's "The Take with Sue O'Connell," will be the moderator. 
 

This is a free event that is open to the public. It starts at 6:30 pm
Patriot Care Annual Community Meeting August 8th 

Patriot Care (21 Milk St.) is hosting its annual community meeting on Tuesday, August 8th at 6 pm at St. Anthony Shrine (100 Arch St.)

The purpose of the meeting is to give a recap of Patriot Care's first year in business on Milk Street.

2nd Annual Business of Beer: Panel and Tasting at Branchfood July 27th

Branchfood is teaming up with Dig Inn, General Assembly at CIC Boston (50 Milk St., Lighthouse Room) to chat about the business of brewing and understand the past, present, and future of the Boston beer scene on Thursday, July 27th.


Panelists include James Raza, co-founder of Democracy Brewing; Suzanne Shallow, co-founder of Craft Beer Cellar; and Owen Johnson, CEO of Revival Brewing Co

There will be a full beer tasting and food catered by Dig Inn (included in the price of the ticket). Tickets are $20-$30 and can be purchased by clicking here. This event is from 6 to 8:30 pm.

Free Yoga Classes on Friday  at The Steps by Women's Fitness of Boston

Women's Fitness of Boston (27 School St.) has partnered with the Downtown Boston BID to offer free yoga classes on Fridays. Classes will be at The Steps at Franklin and Washington streets from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

The class will be a mat workout teaching flexibility, strength and conditioning and will incorporate all styles of yoga. This is a drop-in class and no registration is needed. Please bring your own mat.
 
Shakespeare on the Common: 
'Romeo & Juliet' Through August 6th 

The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company is celebrating its 20th year of Shakespeare on the Common with the beloved "Romeo & Juliet." 

All performances are free and open to the public. But reserved seats are available, too (please see Deals & Promos section). The show runs from July 19th through August 6th. Please click here for more info on showtimes and performances.   
Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's 'Henry IV, Part I' at 
Modern Theatre July 29th 

Actors from Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's Apprentice Program will perform "Henry IV, Part I" at the Modern Theatre on Saturday, July 29th

The First Part of King Henry IV uncovers mounting tensions and tests of loyalty to King Henry's crown--seen by some as stolen from his predecessor, King Richard II. Shakespeare's famed history play asks us, "What will we do in times of political crisis? Play dead or fight back?" 

This is a free event, but registration is encouraged by clicking here. The show is at 2 pm.
Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's 'The Tempest' at 
Modern Theatre July 30th

Actors from Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's Apprentice Program will perform "The Tempest" at the Modern Theatre on Sunday, July 30th

Prospero and her daughter Miranda have been banished to an island in the Mediterranean for 12 years when her usurping sister Antonio and a boatload of treasonous miscreants find themselves stranded on the very same land. In 24 hours the new inhabitants find themselves in a back-stabbing, drunken, magical mess! Will anyone ever make it off the island and return home?

There is live music at The Steps on Franklin Street above the MBTA's Downtown Crossing Station by Millennium Tower every day through the fall.

Historical Play 'Blood On The Snow' at Old State House 

"Blood On The Snow" is a live, dramatic, face-to-face encounter with one of the formative events of the American Revolution. The performance takes place in the very room where it happened in the Old State House (206 Washington St.).The play runs through August 20th.

The play is about the aftermath of the Boston Massacre, as the town's leaders desperately struggle to prevent more bloodshed. 

Due to the intimate nature of this production, there will be no late seating. Only 50 seats will be available per performance.Click here for tickets and showtimes.
 
The Fountain Music Series at 
133 Federal Street Plaza
 
The BID's Fountain Music Series at 133 Federal Street Plaza offers live free musical performances on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 2 pm.
 
Kathleen Parks, pictured, will perform  Wednesday, July 26th. Joe Weinberg will perform Friday, July 28th. Violini Viiv will perform Monday, July 31st.
haley.henry wine bar Sidewalk Slinger August 5th 

haley.henry wine bar (45 Province St.) is celebrating its one year anniversary with a sidewalk party on Saturday, August 5th

There will be oysters, an ice luge shaped like a fish to drink wine from, a white picket fence to take All-American Dream pics in front of and DJ Ryan Brown will be spinning tunes. 

Tickets are $60 and can be purchased here. Tickets include drink tickets and food. This event is from noon to 5 pm.

The 17th Annual GospelFest will be on Sunday, August 6th at City Hall Plaza

Anthony J. Brown will headline this musical event. This event is from 5 to 8 pm. This event is free and open to the public.
Berklee College of Music Series at 100 Summer Street on 
Tuesdays and Thursdays

The Berklee College of Music Series is at the 100 Summer Street Plaza every Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 2 pm

Danae Greenfield will perform Tuesday, July 25th and Thursday, July 27thFrom Seattle, Washington, pianist Danae Greenfield was just 18 months old when her tiny, untrained fingers tapped out sounds and patterns on the battery-operated, single-octave toy keyboard her parents gave her. 
St. Paul's Lunchtime Performance Series on Mondays and Thursdays 

The BID's successful lunchtime music series outside of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul (138 Tremont St.) features solo artists performing on Mondays and Thursdays from noon to 2 pm

Opera Guy and Friends will perform on Thursday, July 27th. Todd Brunel, pictured above, will perform Monday, July 31st.

Seating is provided, so bring your lunch and have a seat to enjoy the free entertainment.

Bands and  Singers Strolling Streets

The Downtown Boston BID's spring entertainment season features three performance groups who are strolling throughout the Downtown Crossing area.
 
The Downtown Boston Dixieland Band is strolling through the area on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays twice
 daily from noon to 2 pm and again from  4:30 to 6:30 pm

The Downtown Boston Brass Band is strolling through the area on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays twice daily from noon to 2 pm and again from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.

The Downtown Boston Singers, a quartet singing group, is strolling through the area performing on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 2 pm and again from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.

Back Deck (2 West St.) offers
Berkshire Summer, pictured above, which includes Greylock gin, lemonade, cucumber juice and garnished with cucumber for $9. 

Fajitas & 'Ritas (25 West St.) offers M ilagro El Pepino, pictured above, which includes Milagro silver tequila, triple sec, fresh lime juice, muddled cucumber and cilantro leaves for $8.41.

Italian Navy Joined In Mock Wedding at Ruth's Chris Steak House

To promote their venue as a wedding location, Ruth's Chris Steak House (45 School St.) held a mock wedding complete with a ceremony, reception, wedding showcase, live music and more on July 19th.  

The wedding included "father of the groom" Mike Testa, the BID's Pedestrian Zone and Special Events Operations Manager, who actually recruited four Italian Navy officers off the street to play groomsmen! Mackenzie Maclay, sales and catering manager for Ruth's Chris Steak House, was the mock bride; two of the bridesmaids work for the Omni Parker House sales team; and the mock groom was a local chef. L'elite Boston (14 Newbury St.) provided the dresses.

The mock wedding was held on the expansive patio in the front of the building to showcase the wedding ceremony capabilities Ruth's Chris Steak House (inside Old City Hall) can offer. The space can hold up to 250 guests and presently only has a $1000 rental for Saturday wedding ceremonies -- one of the best rates for wedding venues in Downtown Boston! Antique Maps and Prints For Sale at Downtown Boston Arts & Crafts Market

Have you ever wondered what your neighborhood looked like back in 1920? Are you into original antique prints? Then check out Intaglio Antique Maps and Prints on Wednesdays and Fridays at the Downtown Boston Arts & Crafts Market (School and Washington streets).  

Intaglio has many antique and original prints (never copies) that are available for purchase and not on display at the market. There are many maps (like the one pictured below, showing the property owners at the corner of School and Tremont streets decades ago) of Boston neighborhoods from different decades. 

The Downtown Boston Arts & Crafts is on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 am to 6 pm in front of Walgreens by the Irish Famine Memorial.  There are several other vendors that participate in the market, too.

Along with more than 80 other organizations in Massachusetts, the Bostonian Society has partnered with the Highland Street Foundation for Free Fun Fridays. Admission will be free to the Old State House (206 Washington St.) on Friday, August 4th.

Visit this important historical site, experience the exhibits, and interact with Revolutionary Era characters. The Old State House will be open from 9 am to 6 pm.
Craft Your Own 3-Course Lunch Menu at

City Looking to Partner Underused 
Private Spaces with Artists

Led by the Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture, the city of Boston has launched an Alternative Space program to partner with local businesses and institutions to help make underused private spaces available to artists. 

The city released a draft of Performing Arts Facilities Assessment that aims to understand the current and anticipated venue challenges of local performing arts organizations in Boston. The public is encouraged to review the assessment and submit feedback at bostonplans.org.

BID Little Free Library at 
Walgreens Plaza

The Downtown Boston BID's Little Free Library is outside of Walgreens on Washington Street and is very popular. Readers are welcome to take a book, and encouraged to leave a book. People are also welcome to donate books by leaving them at the library or contacting Kristen Flanagan at kflanagan@bostonbid.org to organize a pickup in the downtown area.

The BID's Little Free Library is officially registered with the Little Free Library non-profit organization. There are actually more than 50,000 registered little free libraries across the country and world!
 
The BID's Little Free Library is open 10 am to 6 pm daily (closed during inclement weather). 
Vendors Wanted for 2017 
Downtown Boston  Arts & Crafts Market

The Downtown Boston BID is seeking vendors for the 
Downtown Boston Arts & Crafts Market program for 2017 to sell their products. The market is at Readers Park by the Irish Famine Memorial at the corner of Washington and School streets. The market operates on Wednesdays and Fridays through September 29th. 

All artwork, crafts and food offerings must be original and handmade by you or your studio or enterprise. No mass-produced goods are allowed.

The Downtown Boston Arts & Crafts Market accepts arts and crafts in the following categories: fiber arts, fine art (painting, photography, sculpture), Christmas ornaments and holiday items, Judaica, blown glass, stained glass, clay/ceramics, metal, wood furniture, clothing and accessories, children's clothing and toys, pet items, jewelry, artisan foods, personal products (soap and fragrances), home decor and more.

BID Ambassadors Provide Clean & Hospitality Services  in Downtown 

The  Downtown Boston BID Ambassadors provide clean and hospitality services seven days a week, nearly 24 hours a day. Ambassadors create a friendly, welcoming Downtown presence by helping visitors with directions, notifying fire and police personnel of incidents and more.
