Woods College Launches New Student Formation & Common Reading Experience
this fall

Launching in fall 2017, the Woods College Manresa Experience is a Common Formation Experience for Woods College undergraduate students, encouraging them to engage in and foster their professional, personal and spiritual discernment.

This fall, seven Woods College courses will be integrating into their classes the content and message of the nonfiction book,  The Red Bandanna: A Life, a Choice, a Legacy. The Red Bandanna details the life and death of Welles Crowther, a '99 BC graduate and varsity lacrosse player.  On September 11, 2001, Welles died a hero, saving the lives of others and becoming known as "the Man in the Red Bandanna."

All Woods College students in a degree program are required to meet with an advisor once a semester, and all degree students have an assigned advisor.

Students who are not currently in a degree program are also welcome to speak with an advisor regarding course selection, and to obtain more information about degree programs available at the Woods College.

Fa culty & Staff Highlights

David Goodman, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Advising,  participated in a special invitation conference hosted by the Catholic University of Paris and the International Network for the Philosophy of Religion (INPR), comprised of 40 philosophers and theologians, to address the issue of "Transcendence and Immanence" from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Additionally, on July 8th, Dean Goodman facilitated an event, co-sponsored by Morrissey Arts and Sciences and the Psychoanalytic Studies Program, to bring Francoise Davoine to campus to engage scholars and mental health clinicians on the topic of social madness and perversion. The new Conference Center on Brighton Campus was a beautiful venue for staff from Austen Riggs Center, Ferenczi Center at the New School for Social Research, and the Psychology and the Other Institute.

Sarah Says
A piece of advice from long term BC Woods College employee, Sarah  Piepgrass,
Academic & Student Services Specialist:

No matter what you're doing this summer, do what you can to get the most out of your time. Taking classes - maybe in your time off spend more time with loved ones. Interning - maybe also volunteer for a cause you care about. Working - maybe try something new like an art class or a new sport. Taking a break - and be guilt-free about soaking up some sun (it's a fact that a Vitamin D deficiency is closely linked to mood and depression), but do remember the sunscreen!
