Aviation Legend Bob Hoover Dies at 94
The general aviation industry is mourning the death of Robert A. "Bob" Hoover, who passed away yesterday at the age of 94. The World War II fighter pilot was perhaps best known for his aerobatic flying performances at a variety of air shows. Hoover received numerous awards for his flying skills, including the Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy. He was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 1988.
 Early-bird Registration Opens for 2017 AEA International Convention & Trade Show
Registration has opened for the 60th annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show, the largest gathering of general aviation avionics manufacturers, distributors and government-certified repair stations in the world. It is the platform of choice for the introduction of new avionics products and services coming to the marketplace in 2017.
The event takes place March 13-16, 2017, at the New Orleans Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Attendees must register by Dec. 16, 2016, to receive the early-bird discounted price of $610 for a full convention registration. The early-bird promotion offers a $140 per person savings off the on-site registration fee.
The Hilton New Orleans Riverside will serve as the headquarters hotel. The hotel is within walking distance of the New Orleans Convention Center -- site of all general sessions, training and the exhibit hall.
A special group rate of $219 per night is available at the headquarters hotel through Feb. 10, 2017 (subject to availability). Early checkout fees are $90.
A complimentary light lunch will be served both days inside a designated area in the AEA Exhibit Hall for all exhibitors and attendees. Convention r

Nominations Open for AEA Board of Directors Election
Applications are now open for AEA members interested in running for a position on the AEA board of directors. To apply, your company must be an AEA member in good standing, and you must complete an application form by Dec. 9, 2016.
Applications are available online at the AEA's website.
To be considered for a position on the slate of nominees, AEA members must submit an application to the AEA president. The applications are then reviewed by the AEA Trusteeship Committee, which then assembles a final slate of nominees for a vote before the full membership. This slate is assembled based on certain needs or areas of expertise that may be needed on the new board. Nominees will be notified in early January.
Member voting begins via the AEA website on Dec. 19, 2016, and the winners of the election will be notified in early 2017.
A director's term is for three years, and directors are expected to attend the AEA International Convention & Trade Show (where the annual spring board meeting is convened), as well as the annual fall board meeting. During the year, directors may be asked to volunteer time to serve on committees or complete special projects.

Transport Canada Preparing Several Updates to Bilateral Agreements
Transport Canada Civil Aviation has been working on several updates to bilateral agreements in various countries around the world. This includes an agreement with Japan, China, the U.S. and the European Union.
The agreement with China will be a significant update that will allow Canadian manufacturers to extend their approvals to sites in China. There also will be the acceptance of Canadian Form 1 and some acceptance on maintenance.
In the U.S., the IPA and MIP are being revised to address the separation of state of design from the state of manufacture.
In Europe, the MAG is being revised to change some items regarding the acceptance of maintenance between the two authorities. Originally, the plan was to remove the requirement for the supplement in the MPM, but this will no longer happen. However, there should be some changes in the TCCA's requirement to audit Canadian companies that have an approved supplement. It is possible the frequency will be increased from the current two-year period.
A lot of the TCCA's time is being put into these agreements to help the Canadian industry be more competitive. With the coming changes, it should also lower the TCCA's workload in certain areas and allow for a focus on internal policy.

 OK3 AIR Peaks in Heber Valley
Life swirls at OK3 AIR in Heber City, Utah. Customers take thrill rides over the Rocky Mountains in the company's Extra EA-300L aerobatic aircraft. The staff caters to the hundreds of executives, filmmakers and stars who fly into Heber City Airport every year attending the Sundance Film Festival. When Mike Rowe of CNN's Somebody's Gotta Do It TV show wanted to learn about using aircraft in disaster relief, OK3 AIR volunteered to help.
OK3 AIR started as a small FBO and flight school with just six employees in 2000. Today, it is a full-service FBO, FAA Part 145 certified repair station, and authorized Pilatus Aircraft service center, serving mostly private individuals. Its 34,400-square-foot facility is situated on 10 acres on the east side of the airfield

SATCOM DIRECT announced that Airbus became the first OEM to install a suite of Satcom Direct Router, SD WiFi Hubs and GlobalVT, which provides a complete cabin connectivity solution
. In addition, Satcom Direct obtained parts manufacturer approval from the FAA for its SD WiFi Hub, and also received EASA 145 repair station designation.
ASTRONICS' new CTS-6000 Radio Communications Test Set received the top award for the most innovative enterprise hardware product at the OC Tech Alliance 23rd annual High-Tech Innovation Awards dinner, Oct. 6, in Costa Mesa, California. The company also introduced several new PXIe test instruments. In addition, the Max-Viz 1400 Enhanced Vision System for fixed- and rotor-wing aircraft has been certified to DO-160G standards by the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics.
TRUE BLUE POWER announced that the FAA has granted an STC for the company's TB17 (17-amp hour) lithium-ion batteries on Robinson R44 helicopters. This is the first STC granted by the FAA for lithium-ion battery use as a primary electrical power source, including engine start. True Blue Power partnered with St. Louis Helicopter LLC to secure the STC.
DUNCAN AVIATION announced that it is the only Dassault authorized service center with technicians trained to perform Service Bulletin 379 in its entirety on the Falcon 7X aircraft. In addition, Duncan Aviation and Rockwell Collins will have a Citation CJ3 aircraft with the Pro Line Fusion flight deck upgrade on static display at the Orlando Executive Airport during the NBAA Convention. Duncan also will be installing the new Gogo 4G system when it's ready in the first half of 2017.
ROCKWELL COLLINS' ARINCDirect is now offering its customers the Airborne Data Router for enhanced connectivity through a partnership with TrueNorth Avionics.
The ADR will support a new suite of value-added connectivity features and services being launched by Rockwell Collins' ARINCDirect including enhancements to security. In addition, Rockwell Collins' Airshow Moving Map for airlines is now available for web browsers on smartphones, tablets and laptop computers as part of the PAVES Wireless in-flight entertainment system.
ROCKWELL COLLINS and B/E AEROSPACE announced on Oct. 23 that the two companies have entered into a definitive agreement under which Rockwell Collins will acquire B/E Aerospace for $8.3 billion in total consideration. According to the companies, this transformative transaction accelerates growth and strengthens Rockwell Collins' position as a leading supplier of cockpit and cabin solutions.
B. COLEMAN AVIATION will begin a multi-phase, long-term expansion plan after being granted approval by the Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority Board. The plan includes the construction of a 40,000-square-foot common hangar facility and a ground lease for 11 acres of aviation developmental opportunities.
GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP. appointed ROBERT GLASSCOCK vice president and lead ODA administrator. He replaces BILL WHITTON, who recently retired. The company also appointed THOMAS ANDERSON vice president and general manager of its service and completions centers in Long Beach, California. He replaces BECKY JOHNSON, who retired. In addition, the Gulfstream G280 aircraft recently established a speed record between Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands in Europe, and Teterboro, New Jersey, making the transatlantic journey in just seven hours and 26 minutes. The company also will end production of the Gulfstream G450 as it prepares to launch the new G500.
AVIDYNE announced
the winners in its $55,000 Dream Panel Giveaway sweepstakes. The
grand-prize winner was David Mullins of Texas, who won a full IFR- and ADS-B-compliant Avidyne avionics stack including IFD540 and IFD440 FMS /GPS/ NAV/ COMs, AMX240 Audio Panel with six-place vox intercom, AXP322 Remote-mount Mode S Transponder with ADS-B Out, and a SkyTrax100 ADS-B In receiver with a total value of $42,395. Mullins chose Clear Star Aviation of Addison, Texas, to perform the upgrade to a Cirrus SR22.
BANYAN AIR SERVICE will host a free Seaplane Splash-In on Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.
ANODYNE ELECTRONIC MANUFACTURING CORP. celebrated seven years in business. The company began Oct. 13, 2009, with 47 employees and has more than doubled, both the staff and its square footage.
GULF COAST AVIONICS opened its 19th
satellite avionics shop and pilot's store in the new Sheltair FBO location at Tampa International Airport.
LASELEC will celebrate its 15-year anniversary with electrical harness automation at the NBAA Convention in Orlando. The company will present its automatic solutions in a special presentation during the show.
AVMAX purchased
one Embraer EMB-145LR msn 145679 from CIT Aerospace LLC.
Avmax also purchased three Cessna Citation X msn 750-0032, 750-0085 and 750-0256. The three Citations are on lease to Air X Charter.
HELITRAK announced FAA certification of the Collective Pull Down line of products. HeliTrak received the AML STC on Oct. 13.
SANDEL AVIONICS announced its partnership with Aerosim Technologies to create the Sandel Avilon Training Program that will prepare pilots to use avionics designed to fly in the NextGen airspace.
JEPPESEN said it will enhance its SID (standard instrument departure) and STAR (standard terminal arrival route) charts to increase situational awareness and reduce head-down time while referencing chart information. Jeppesen also teamed with TUI Group, the European charter and scheduled airline service operator, to enhance dispatch operations and training through an integrated in-house program available for airlines and other operators.
GENESYS AEROSYSTEMS announced a minority investment by McNally Capital to help support the company's continued growth.
ROBOTIC SKIES has partnered with Marques Aviation Ltd. to develop and implement a global maintenance plan for the Marques line of UAS products. As part of the agreement, Robotic Skies will provide warranty program and field support management for Marques customers through the Robotic Skies network of service centers around the globe.
COBHAM AEROSPACE COMMUNICATIONS was awarded a contract from Beechcraft Defense Company to provide Digital Control Management Systems for up to 10 Beechcraft T-6C military training aircraft operated by the U.K. Ministry of Defense's Military Flying Training System program.
KADEX AERO SUPPLY was appointed by Shell Aviation as an authorized AeroShell distributor.
GARMIN is expanding its portfolio of integrated flight deck upgrades to now include a G5000 modernization program for the Citation Excel and Citation XLS.
The G5000 will feature three high-resolution 14-inch flight displays with dual touchscreen controllers. The STC is targeted for approval in late 2018 and will be available from select Garmin dealers, as well as Textron Aviation Service Centers.
