"Our business in life is not to get ahead of others, but to get ahead of ourselves, to break our own records, to outstrip our yesterday by our today ."

2017 Loan Program Status

It is the Wyoming County EDA's mission to partner, not compete, with lending institutions and other funding sources to maximize the loans that can be leveraged by small businesses in our communities.

However, we also understand that sometimes there are funding gaps not addressed by these institutions. In order to provide the capital that small businesses need to start and grow in Southern West Virginia, the WCEDA oversees five loan funds geared towards filling these needs.

In Fiscal Year 2017, our Loan Board approved and closed on more than $600,000 in funds for clients representing restaurants, retail stores, manufacturing facilities, and other industries.  We take pride in these achievements, and look forward to watching new companies grow and serve our communities!

In partnership with our contractors, the WV Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and the WV Brownfields Assistance Centers (BACs), we have made great progress on the former Lusk Lumber site in Tralee.  With assessments and reviews wrapping up over the next few months, we look forward to moving into the construction phase of remediation and working with new tenants to grow Wyoming County!

Congratulations, Christy!

Visit Wyoming County Days

We have been working for many days, weeks, and months now trying to prepare for our first "Visit Wyoming County Days', scheduled for September 29 - October 1, 2017.  The next meeting to plan and finalize events will be July 28, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Mullens Opportunity Center.

If your community or group would like to participate, you can click the following links to access the  activity form, the booth registration form, and the volunteer form.  These need to be submitted to Christy Laxton before the meeting on July 28th.

Activities will be held all across the county during these three days.  We hope it will encourage locals to come out and enjoy their own community, and that it will also encourage others to visit and stay in Wyoming County for a few days and see all it has to offer.  Some of the activities that have been discussed include but are not limited to fishing tournaments, a pinewood derby, helicopter rides, ghost stories, movie night, parade of lights, car/motorcycle show, a gospel sing, corn hole tournaments, food and prizes, a horse show, along with many, many others.  We need YOUR help though to confirm these events and make them a possibility.  Come out and help us make the Visit Wyoming County Days a success!

Business of the Week Program

The Wyoming County EDA "Business of the Week" program is another opportunity to show our appreciation to Wyoming County businesses for investing in our community.  We encourage everyone to buy local as often as possible.  Buying local saves jobs and businesses in Wyoming County.

Each week, the Wyoming County EDA will select a business who has been nominated and is located in Wyoming County to be chosen as the "Business of the Week".  The business is spotlighted for one business week (M-F) .  The "Business of the Week" receives marketing opportunities with an announcement on our website at  www.wyomingcounty.com and our Facebook page.  You can find the nomination form in this link.

To nominate a Business of the Week, please email entries to [email protected] or fax them to 304-732-6963.

Fostering Entrepreneurship

Foster Entrepreneurship:  That is what the WV Community Development Hub is trying to do with the Energizing Entrepreneurial Communities program.  Wyoming County is one of only four communities in the state of WV that was selected by the The Hub to participate in this program.

The WV Community Development Hub is partnering with the national Center for Rural Entrepreneurship ( www.energizingentrepreneurs.org) to bring the Entrepreneurial Communities (e2) Framework and Process to West Virginia. Built upon the Center's extensive field experience and learning, the e2 Framework and Process helps your community discover your unique road to greater prosperity through supporting and growing entrepreneurial talent .

There are many ways to grow a successful economy that creates jobs, businesses, career opportunities and rooted wealth. With healthy economic growth comes a greater capacity to support public services, education and quality of life investments important to create a more prosperous community. Entrepreneurs are at the heart of all economic development - they recognize opportunities and pull together the assets and resources needed to create new economic activity. It is critically important to support people in your community who are creating and growing local ventures; these ventures, in turn, become the drivers of your community's economic development. The best prosperity strategy, particularly in small communities like yours, is to grow entrepreneurial talent by creating a pipeline of support that helps more people succeed at starting and growing private and social ventures.
Through the partnership with the Center for Rural Entrepreneurship, The Hub will be working with community members to implement a tried and true strategy to create a culture of entrepreneurship.  This process involves creating relationships with potential and existing entrepreneurs, connecting them to pre-existing resources that can help them become more successful and making their community a better place to live.  Let us know if you'd like to be a part of this movement.
