ACI Board Members Visit DC
Last week, five ACI Board Members attended the 2017 State Agribusiness Association Summer Legislative Fly-In co-hosted by The Fertilizer Institute along with the Agricultural Retailers Association, American Seed Trade Association, Biotechnology Innovation Organization, and CropLife America. Seven state associations (Ill., Ind., Kan., Ky., Neb., and Va.) attended bringing in more than 30 people and participating in more than 60 meetings with congressional offices.  Members were briefed on policy issues and heard updates on 4R initiatives, industry economic impact, and the Congressional Fertilizer Caucus.  Additionally, James Glueck, staff director at the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry spoke to the group.

The trip included productive conversations with the Indiana Delegation about issues related to trade, regulatory and environmental issues and polices among others.  Our members met with both Senators Joe Donnelly and Todd Young along with Congressmen Banks, Hollingsworth, Messer and Rokita and Congresswomen Brooks and Walorski.  The group met with National Grain and Feed Association President Randy Gordon and Bobby Frederick, Director of Legislative Affairs and Public Policy. Each ACI Board member commented that it was an incredible opportunity to have face-to-face conversations with those directly involved in legislation important to our members. Special thanks to Lesa Dietrick, Ice Miller, for coordinating these Hill visits.

Perdue Applauds Selection of
ISDA Director Ted McKinney to
USDA Post
Source:  USDA Press Release 0071.17
(Washington, D.C., July 19, 2017) - U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue today applauded President Donald J. Trump's declaration of intent to nominate Ted McKinney for Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs and Dr. Sam Clovis for Under Secretary for Research, Education, and Economics.

Secretary Perdue issued the following statements:
Regarding Ted McKinney:
"For our new under secretary position emphasizing international trade, I have always said that I want someone who wakes up every morning asking how we can sell more American agricultural products in foreign markets. Ted McKinney is that person. His longstanding background in agriculture, economic development, and global issues will make him an unapologetic advocate for U.S. products in the world marketplace."

Regarding Dr. Sam Clovis:
"Dr. Clovis was one of the first people through the door at USDA in January and has become a trusted advisor and steady hand as we continue to work for the people of agriculture. He looks at every problem with a critical eye, relying on sound science and data, and will be the facilitator and integrator we need. Dr. Clovis has served this nation proudly since he was a very young man, and I am happy he is continuing to serve."
