   In a letter to the people of the Archdiocese of New Orleans in the Oct. 15 issue, Archbishop Gregory Aymond takes a look at the contentious presidential election and asks that voters use prudence and examine Catholic teaching in forming their conscience before casting their ballots. 

   Greg Erlandson, the editor-in-chief of Catholic News Service, examines the growing polarization of American culture and says Catholics must respond with mercy and civility in their relationships with one another. 

   How can your parish be a more welcoming place? A stewardship leader from the Atlanta Archdiocese offered a few tips at the International Catholic Stewardship Conference on how every Catholic parish can throw out the welcome mat for visitors. 

   In Kids' Clarion, Our Lady of Prompt Succor School in Westwego is bridging any potential divide between kids and police by inviting officers, firefighters and first responders to lunch every Friday, where they can interact with each other. 

   As the Year of Mercy in nearing a close, several parishes in the archdiocese will offer the sacrament of anointing of the sick in the context of Mass or prayer service. Check out the dates and locations for the public conferral of the sacrament. 

   There are four schools in the archdiocese with a tie to the Christian Brothers, and they will rejoice this weekend with the canonization of Christian Brother Solomon Leclercq, who was martyred during the French Revolution in 1792. 

   The Maryknoll missioners gather at the Archdiocese of New Orleans Retreat Center recently to reflect on their Catholic responsibilities to bring Christ to others. Sometimes, that doesn't mean leaving the country but working for peace and justice at home. 

   Notre Dame professor Dr. Daniella Zsupan-Jerome told the International Catholic Stewardship Conference in New Orleans that Vincent van Gogh painting of the Good Samaritan has much to tell us about giving our time, talent and treasure to God, the giver of all that is good. 

   Pope Francis says Christians don't have to proselytize with words but should show Christ through their example to others.
