Let me tell you 'OUR' story,
We want to tell you our story this month so that you
know that when we say 'we understand what you are going through' that we mean it! On June 22nd, my mother fell outside our home while watering the roses. Fortunately, she had her cell phone on her and was able to call me to let me know what happened. She thought at that time that she wasn't hurt too badly so we called one of our employees who lives close to go there and assess the situation. When he arrived, he was able to get her into a wheelchair but she could not walk. At that
point, 911 was called and they transported her to the hospital. It was determined that she had broken her leg and surgery would be required.
After a 5 day stay in the hospital, she was then transferred to Grand Islander for rehab. All of this is occurring while my father is in hospice at our hom
e with advanced COPD. On Friday, July 14th, we lost dad after his lo
ng and courageous battle. We were able to bring mom home on July 10th to be with him at his side for those final days. Clyde B LaRue Obituary
Now that dad is gone, our focus has turned to providing mom with the daily help she needs to allow her to regain her mobility and independence.
We would like to thank the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport
and Bristol Counties for the compassion and understanding that they exhibited to us and our family which was exemplary. Also, all of the wonderful people at Grand Islander in the Transitional Care Unit in Middletown, RI for the services they provided, which went beyond just caring for our mom.
We have gotten a real taste for what many of our clients encounter in trying to do this themselves. It has sharpened our focus and resolve and has committed us to making Home Healthsmith a more effective partner for all of those experiencing these difficulties.
Let us help you
with your situation!

Are you a retired Boomer or approaching retirement and interested in learning how to modify your home to "age in place"? This trend, known as "aging in place," is an alternative to downsizing or moving to a condo in warmer climate.
Our experts will teach you how to tastefully and easily make your surroundings easier to manage and safer as you grow older. From replacing bathtubs, installing safety rails, or widening doors - our Director of Design, Prudence Stoddard, CKD, CAPS, UDCP will discuss the principles and importance of Universal Design, while showcasing specific products and appliances that are being used today.
In additon, Linda Bohmbach, ECHMP, Co-Founder and Vice President of Home HealthSmith will join us to review various types of accessibility equipment available for your living room and/or bedroom including ceiling lifts and various types of transfer aids for those with limited mobility.
