This is the voting rights issue of our day
It's a major League priority for 2017

In Florida, 1.7 million people have lost the right to vote because of a felony conviction. Only about 25% of felons ever serve time in prison.   League members across the state are working to put the  Voting Rights Restoration Amendment on the 2018 ballot , by collecting signatures and educating the public. We need 700,000 signatures.

Help support the efforts outlined below.

We're supporting a neighborhood fundraiser
West Ken Lark Wing Ding is Saturday, July 29

A few weeks ago, the League held its first organizational meeting to form an action team to gather petitions and educate voters about the effort to restore voting rights to people with past felony convictions.

We were joined at our meeting by several members of the West Ken Lark Homeowners Assn., which is also taking up this cause.

We're supporting this West Ken Lark fundraiser, which will help this group print more petitions to circulate. Co-President Joanne Aye will speak and League members will gather petitions and register voters. Here are the details:

Where: Escapes Restaurant and Lounge, 1451 NW 31st Ave., Lauderhill

When: 3 - 7 p.m. Saturday, July 29

What: The event will include a Best Wings and Tater Salad Contest (with all you can eat wings by Escapes, Naked Bones, & Nothing but Wings), games and a comedy show. Admissions is $15. (Doesn't include beverages.)

You can take an extra $5 off your admission when you go to www.floridarrc.com, retrieve the petition and get 10 registered Florida Voters to sign and return at the Wing Ding. Please share this on your social media and encourage friends and family to sign the petition today. (Signers must be registered Florida voters). For more information about this event call Jenean Way, (954) 484-0290.
