Region 11

We have just completed our first Regional Championship Show at a new facility for the first time in many years. We had to make the decision to move from our traditional home at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill. due to upcoming renovations to their coliseum. We selected the National Equestrian Center in Lake St. Louis, Mo. as our new site. Our show was successful there, thanks to all who showed up as exhibitors, staff and especially volunteers. There are always growing pains with a new adventure like this, but thank you to all who supported us.

During the Regional Show, our AHYA chapter held their annual meeting. New officers were selected for a two year term. Savanna DeMott and Ashley Lounsberry were selected as Director and Vice-Director and will serve as co-directors, Katie France was selected as Secretary and the Treasurer's position remains open. During the meeting the youth members made plans to attend the AHYA convention and other activities held at the Youth Nationals Show.

Also at our show we announced the winners of our first ever Marlys Anderson Ambassador Award buckles. Marlys was our Regional Director in years past as well as a very active IAHA and AHA member at the national level. Thanks to a generous donation by her husband Nate Anderson this award buckle program will continue in her memory for several years to come. Congratulations to our winners, Ashley Lounsberry in the rated show division and Savanna DeMott in the non-rated show division. We hope you wear your buckles proudly. Points are already being collected for the 2018 buckles. The contest is open to any Region 11 AHYA member. Contact our Youth Advisor Val Waggoner at [email protected] or 309-338-4988 for applications.

Our summer delegate's meeting will be held on August 12, 2017, at the Stoney Creek Inn in Quincy, Ill. At this meeting we will hold our election of officers for the next two-year term, and we will also discuss a few bylaw changes, so please encourage your clubs to send their delegates.

Region 17

It's only a week until the Region 17 show - July 25-29!!  We hope you are going to be joining us in Calgary at the Calgary Stampede Park.

If you have not qualified or would like to give your horse a warm up to the arena the Calgary Arabian Horse Association is holding a pre -show on July 24.

For those of you who have not shown in Calgary before, the Stampede Park is found right down town - so there is easy access from the east, the west and the United States -whether you travel by truck and trailer or airplane.  There are great hotels and restaurants all nearby.  And for our American friends, the U.S. dollar enjoys a strong exchange rate against the Canadian dollar.

Visit the Region 17 webpage for information about the show, the show hotels, entry forms and all of the fun events planned.  This is the friendliest, funnest show you will ever attend!!!

Region 17 Select Stallion Auction and Futurity
The Region 17 Select Stallion Auction is underway and we are having a tremendous year! There is over FIFTY stallions (that's right 50) enrolled this year encompassing many breeds, colours and disciplines. We have a fantastic selection of Halter, Hunter Pleasure, Racing, Country English, Endurance, Sport Horse, Working Western and Western Pleasure and purebred Arabians to choose from. In addition to this for the Part-bred enthusiast we have an impressive array of AQHA Reining and Working Western stallions, beautifully coloured APHA stallions, as well as Warmblood and Pony Sport Horse stallions!

Bidding on these wonderful stallions is now open and will remain so until the end of the Region 17 Championship Show in July. All of the breedings sold this year are for use in the 2018 breeding season. The get of the resulting breedings are eligible to compete in one of four yearling halter classes (Purebred Fillies, Purebred Colts/Geldings, HA Fillies, HA Colts/Geldings) and one of TEN Performance classes as FIVE year olds. As all classes are amateur to handle/ride we have bumped our performance year up to five years of age at the request of our supporters. In addition to that, by popular demand, we have added a reining class to the Performance Futurity! As of the 2018 breeding year, all foals will be eligible for one class in Purebred or Part-bred in the following : Hunter Pleasure, Country English Pleasure, Western Pleasure, Sport Horse Under Saddle and Reining!

The 2017 Futurity takes place at the Region 17 Championship show and we have over $10,000 to give away this year to our Futurity entries! With over 50 stallions in this year's auction, the pot of winnings is sure to be substantial as this is our biggest year to date! We invite you to come have a look at the great selection of stallions available to meet your breeding needs! Come and see us at:   www.SelectStallionAuction.com

Sponsorships
One tangible way you can help the Region 17 show is to consider a sponsorship.  There are an array of sponsorships available.  Maybe you would like to be a "Friends of Region 17" Sponsorship or a JOINT Sponsor.  Maybe you would like to have a picture of you and your horse on the Wall of Fame sponsorship.  Have your banner hung in the arena for all to see!

MDP Meeting Update:

The MDP committee is working on several large projects:

1.  REGION 12 - "Goldie", "Legend" and an unpainted statue were in attendance at Region 12.  The unpainted horse was auctioned off by the Spotlight Futurity at their annual event, bringing $4500 to their organization.  Shamrock Farms purchased the statue which will go to benefit an autism charity in their home town.  In preparation for these two new horses, my husband built two stands for them to be affixed to, covered with green astro turf.  There are a lot of details that go into moving these statues around.  We wrapped and unwrapped a massive amount of bubble wrap to ship the three of them.  Until he is moved to Youth, "Goldie" is on my porch.

"Legend" is a dappled grey, painted by Suzanne Economopoulos (Zan) and he depicts the history of the Arabian horse.  He is beautiful!  Currently, he is in my dining room awaiting his final destination.

2. YOUTH NATIONALS - At the time of this report (July 3) it is anticipated that "Silver", newly renamed "Warrior", will be auctioned at Youth Nationals for the benefit of Ryan Melendez's "Warrior Horses for Warrior Kids".  "Goldie" will be shipped there as well. We are working on getting more press coverage of the Wednesday night auction.

3. ROMERO BRITTO - Through my friend Navid Matoory, world renown artist Romero Britto (Google him) offered to paint two statues at no cost.  Both are currently in his studio and he plans to have them complete by the middle of August.  Romero is very generous and is very involved with Make A Wish Foundation in Miami.  One of the horses will be auctioned at their annual gala in November.  As a condition of his offer, he will also select the second charity.

4.  MIAMI EVENT - We are planning a "lifestyle" party in Miami in late August.  Navid is a professional photographer and an Arabian horse enthusiast.  He can bring huge sponsors to the table, mostly his clients (Vogue, Cartier, Dior, Apple, Sony, Polo, for example) to support the event where we will have an Arabian Horses for Humanity display, mainly Romero's two horses, plus "Goldie", "Legend" and possibly "Warrior".  We have Arabian horse owners in Miami who are involved as well.  One has a very popular restaurant and will cater the event.  We plan to have two live Arabian horses on site to dazzle the guests with their beauty.  It will be held on Miami Beach.  Due to Romero's popularity and celebrity, we anticipate a great deal of press coverage.  Romero is their local hero!

5.  NEW YORK SHOW - After the Miami event, the art-statues will be shipped to New York City for a similar "lifestyle" party in conjunction with the U.S. Open Horse Show in September.  We are in touch with the Metropolitan Museum and may have them displayed nearby.  If not, they will be near the show ring.

6.  KAREN KASPER - Karen Kasper, the artist who designed "Goldie", offered to paint one at no cost to the sponsor.  We have a corporate sponsor for this horse and Karen wants it to benefit St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis.  Oddly, it's a large task to get the hospital board to approve a gift of any sort.  This is a work-in-progress.

7.  COWGIRL HALL OF FAME - Becky Nash is working with the Development Director of the Cowgirl Hall of Fame.  The Director is interested in creating a temporary exhibit on Arabian horses using our Arabian Horses for Humanity statues. She is meeting with their curator to pursue this exhibit.

8.  PAT STORAGE CONTENTS - The PAT offered MDP the contents of their storage unit at the Gallery in Lexington, KY.  While at the Region 14 horse show (July 1) at the same facility, I went through the contents with the curator. There are well over 30 boxes of books, several bronzes and other pieces of framed artwork.  The valuable pieces could be auctioned, either a silent auction or an online auction.  Either way, we have committed to taking the contents and will do the best we can to raise money.
