ASB Cards
It is NOT too late to buy your student an ASB card, a great value at only $65. The ASB card includes your student's yearbook, a spirit shirt, discounts to ALL of the dances, and many more discounts through out the school year. Click here to buy yours today!

Speaking of ASB cards, if you have already purchased your student one and are wondering where it is. Do not panic! The ASB card is actually your student's ID card. On the card it will say ASB if you have purchased it. Make up pictures were just the other day, so we should be seeing those ID cards along with your student's pictures very shortly. Any questions, please email Mrs. Fichou.

Marie Lu - This Wednesday at Hillview
Author Event!  Marie Lu, author of the Legend and Young Elites series, is coming to Hillview   THIS Wednesday  during Open Session! 7th and 8th graders who have a Qu3ST class that is not coming to the event may request permission from their teachers to attend. Please see a librarian to get your "golden ticket." Any Hillview student may preorder a signed copy of one of the Young Elites books, using the order form on the   library website. Let's give this accomplished author a big Hillview welcome!

7th/8th Grade Halloween Dance Chaperones Needed
The Halloween Dance for 7th and 8th graders is coming soon on  Friday, October 21, 2016. Doors will open at  6:30 p.m. and the dance will end promptly at  8:30 p.m. Please do not park in the carpool lane. If a student is dropped off after  7:00 p.m., a parent or guardian must walk the student to the door, and if a student needs to be picked up early, a parent or guardian must check in with a chaperone before the student leaves. And, we still need parent chaperones for the dance. So, if you would like to be one of those lucky chaperones, please contact  Nancy Witeck.

Spend Quality Time at Hillview

Erik Burmeister to Speak at PTO General Meeting
Assistant Superintendent and former Hillview Principal, Erik Burmeister, will join our PTO General Meeting -- held in the Hillview PAC on Wednesday, October 26 from   9:00 - 11:00 a.m.  -- to highlight the impact of the district's structural deficit on the MPCSD program, particularly focusing on impacts to Hillview Middle School.

Mr. Burmeister will share an overview of the feedback the Communication Advisory Team has received regarding support for a potential second shot at a parcel tax renewal or increase. He will welcome input from the audience and answer questions. Also on agenda will be the approval of the revised 2016-17 PTO budget and proposed bylaw changes. The documents are available for review at the Hillview office as well here (budget) and here (bylaws).

Budget cuts? Teacher pink slips? Larger class sizes? Higher taxes?
Hopefully, you are one of the many parents who are becoming more informed about the district's need to address its structural deficit caused by increasing enrollment, increasing mandated retirement costs for the state, and the sunsetting of 2010's Measure C. On the Board's behalf, the Superintendent's Advisory Committee on Communication is reaching out for your input and perspective. There's still time to come up with a plan to address our fiscal needs, but we need your feedback and we need it soon.

We encourage you to:
  • Check out our District's "Announcement" section for information
  • Read this recent Almanac article and the recent editorial.
  • Join the conversation and click HERE to submit you feedback online
  • Mark your calendars for the following upcoming Board meetings at Hillview's PAC, especially either of the October 24 or October 25 Community Input Sessions:
October 18 @ 6:00 p.m.
Superintendent presents preliminary reduction recommendations; community input sought.

October 24 @ 9:00 a.m.
Day-time Special Board Meeting to hear from community on willingness to renew or increase the expiring Measure C parcel tax.

October 25 @ 6:00 p.m.
Evening-time Special Board Meeting to hear from community on willingness to renew or increase the expiring Measure C parcel tax.

November 9 @ 6:00 p.m.
Board discusses potential reductions and interest level in pursuing a parcel tax renewal or increase.

Music
Special Ticket Offer from Woodside Community Theatre for Hillview Community
As some are aware, every weeknight for the past 2 months and on Saturdays, the Woodside Community Theatre has been rehearsing at Hillview for their upcoming production of Ragtime!  We are now ready and will open next weekend at Woodside High School for a limited 2 weekend run. Just as last year, they are offering free tickets to anyone affiliated with Hillview for the preview which is on  Thursday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Woodside High School PAC. The show runs 3 hours. Since it is a school night, if kids just want to come for the first half, we understand. Anyone who comes just has to identify themselves as being from Hillview and that will be their ticket. Please be aware, the show is PG-13 with gun use and some objectionable language but the issues, of course, are very real, then and unfortunately now.
For the rest of the run, we are able to offer Hillview students and staff entry for $10.00, with tickets that must be purchased at the door. A Hillview ID should be shown. Adults (parents) are regular price.

Ragtime is a wonderful show. For more information, please visit the Woodside Community Theatre Website here .
