Hissing cockroaches get 'warm and fuzzy' through green-screen technology

Longfellow Middle School students are tapping into their imaginations with the use of green-screen technology, purchased through a grant from the La Crosse Public Education Foundation.

Students are using the photo and video capabilities of their iPads to adventure to far-away lands, create commercials and newscasts to persuade their classmates, and tell other stories in compelling new ways. For a science project related to the school's Insect Zoo, some students are even showing the "warm and fuzzy" side of the hissing cockroach.
First grant deadline is Oct. 31
The La Crosse Public Education Foundation has awarded about $100,000 in grants over the past two years to teachers and others. The first deadline to apply this year is Oct. 31. Get application details and forms here.
