Homecoming Sunday and Inter-generational service
All Saints welcomes the program year on Homecoming Sunday. With a special inter-generational choir in full swing, we'll celebrate by coming together as the whole household of God! This Sunday, we will bless our Parish School teachers and Sunday School teachers. We'll also gather all of the children at the altar to hear a message from Rev. Aimee. Children from the Parish School and Sunday School will be blessed as they begin their school year. Families are encouraged to join Steve in the sanctuary at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday the 11th if you are interested in singing in the inter-generational choir. (steve@asbts.org)

A potluck on the patio will follow the 10 a.m. service and All Saints will provide hotdogs.

NEEDED: Chips/Salsa, BBQ Beans, Salad, Cookies, and Soda - Please bring one or more these items ready to go!
Transition House Dinner Sunday, September 11
Sunday, September 11th is All Saints' night to prepare and serve dinner to Transition House residents. Approximately 59 family members will attend this dinner - and rely on this hot meal.
We are very excited to announce that our first Youth Group activity will be held on Saturday, October 8th at 5:30pm in the Parish House. All Junior High youth (6th-8th grades) and Senior High youth are welcome. The Youth Group will be making and enjoying dinner together under the guidance of Kathryn Roberts and other Youth Group Committee members. They will not only enjoy food and fellowship but will be discussing plans for this year. The Youth Group Committee members are The Rev. Vicki Mouradian, Kathryn Roberts, Chris Belanger, Michael Swift, and Scott Danielson along with Peer Mentors Callahan Morgan and LIana Mueller. We look forward to a fun-filled and menagful year! Youth Group attendees are always welcome to bring friends!
Education for Ministry (EFM) Information Meeting Sunday, September 11th after 10 a.m. Service
The seminar group is the nucleus of the EFM program. A group of six to twelve participants and a trained mentor meet weekly over the course of a nine-month academic year. Through study, prayer, and reflection, EFM groups move toward a new understanding of the fullness of God's kingdom. Participants are given weekly assignments to study with the help of resource guides. Through discussion and guided reflection, the seminars furnish an opportunity to deepen understanding of the reading materials.
By examining their own beliefs and their relationship to our culture and the tradition of our Christian faith, participants can learn what it means to be effective ministers in the world and in coming to terms with the notion that everything we do has potential for manifesting the love of Christ, we discover that our ministry is at hand wherever we turn.

An Information Meeting will be held Sunday, September 11th after the 10 a.m. service in the Parish House. Come learn about EfM!
Healing Prayer Resumes This Sunday!
Summer is over, and the rituals of fall are calling us back to our patterns of meeting and seeking God's presence collectively again. Last week, Centering Prayer met at 9:15 a.m., and this coming Sunday at 9:15 a.m., we're called to gather again in the Healing Presence.

WE'll resume our inner journey together, and, for those moments of collective silence, we'll release our habits of thought so that deeper faculties of seeing and knowing our lives become available to us. Subtly and quietly, feelings or insights come to us in healing prayer that reorder our very being. Marcel Proust wrote: "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes."

We hope you'll join us in the voyage of discovery that is the natural result of navigating by listening for the Holy Spirit...this coming Sunday morning in the downstairs conference room of the church office. And please bring a friend!

Join the All Saints Book Group!
Our next All Saints Book Group meets
Monday, September 12 at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish House. We will be discussing
Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger. "A respected mystery writer turns his attention to the biggest mystery of all: God. An award-winning author for his long-running Cork O'Connor series, Krueger aims higher and hits harder with a standalone novel that shares much with his other work...'the awful grace of God,' as it manifests itself within the novel, would try the faith of the most devout believer. Yet, ultimately, the world of this novel is one of redemptive grace and mercy, as well as unidentified corpses and unexplainable tragedy. A novel that transforms narrator and reader alike." (Kirkus Reviews)

Join us for potluck dinner, fellowship and lively discussion. Bring a dish and beverage to share (wine or soda). All are welcome! Please contact Rev. Vicki at vicki@asbts.org for more information.
M-4 Veterans Group
All Saints' veterans of military service are invited to a special breakfast hosted by El Montecito Presbyterian Church in their Parish Hall on Saturday, September 17th at 09:00 hours to 11:00 hours.

The M-4 Veterans Group is a great way to meet and get to know others who have served our country and thereby have some commonality to draw together. This group promotes comradery among fellow M-4 veterans to share the "gung ho" spirit with our churches as well as increase awareness of services for our veterans in our community.

Please RSVP to Bill Gowler by phone 845-3522 or email gowler07@msn.com with your name, church, and branch of service. Please include any food allergies.

Godly Play Comes to All Saints!
Starts September 18th
We are very excited to announce that the Godly Play curriculum is coming to All Saints this fall! This curriculum will be introduced to our Sunday School, grades Pre-K through 5th, when we begin our new Sunday School year on September 18! Godly Play is a unique way of doing Christian Formation. Developed by Jerome Berryman, an Episcopal Priest, Godly Play uses religious language, parable, sacred story, liturgical action, and wondering to help children discover the deep resources of our faith.Out Sunday School teachers and volunteers will be busy throughout August and September with Godly Play training and converting our rooms into Godly Play space. For parents, grandparents, and others interested in learning more about the curriculum and the Godly Play approach, you are welcome to visit one of our two training sessions: September 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. followed by September 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Our training sessions will be conducted on our campus by the Rev. Major Deficiencies Uncovered During Phase 1 Bell Tower Work; Overall Project Costs Being Updated

We have recently learned that we will likely need to rebuild a significant portion of the north and possibly south walls of the church as part of Phase 2, including adding new exterior shingles, interior framing and new interior plaster. The need for this significant new element of the project was learned after the Bell Tower was removed and we opened the entire northwest corner of the building. The north aisle ceiling has been "sagging" for perhaps decades because no support beam was originally installed during the 1930s addition., pushing the top of the north wall outward. The roof will have to be shored while new walls are built. The cost for this work will hopefully be covered in our generous project contingency fund; however this is being analyzed.
--------

Project leaders have requested that architect Bob Easton, the contractor, structural and mechanical engineers, and other professionals undertake further exploratory work on the walls, roof supports and other areas to be addressed in Phase 2 in order to identify likely "surprises" not covered by our original budget and to prepare an update. A 20 percent contingency is included in teh project budget and is designed to handle these types of surprises. However, if we have significantly under-budgeted, even with this contingency amount, we want to know now so the leadership and, ultimately, the Vestry, can undertake a process of prioritizing project elements. That task will begin this fall once the revised budget is received in late August. "We are committed to making sure we address the needs of the sanctuary while ensuring we monitor the project, its costs and our budget," said Rev. Aimee. "We have excellent lay leadership working daily to monitor all aspects of this major undertaking. We also have a stellar team of outside professionals managing the project. The Vestry is updated regularly and we will continue to keep the parish informed," she added. More information about all of these developments will be presented at a fall Town Hall meeting.

--------

Remember:

During the construction we will need to enter and exit the church using the door on the front right hand side of the church (closest to the Parish House) and the Vesting Room door.

If you have any questions or concerns about this project, please call the church office (805) 969-4771
