City Council Candidates' Opinions for Bike/Ped Advocacy:
We
asked the 2016 Cupertino City Council candidates to respond with their thoughts on the current state of biking in Cupertino and the approved 2016 Bike Plan. Of the eight candidates, six responded with their insights; and two candidates declined to respond.
We encourage you to go to the WalkBikeCupertino website to review their full responses. Please vote for those individuals that you think will prioritize the funding for Bike/Ped safety and improvements.
The Hills at Vallco - Bike/Ped Community Information Meeting - Sunday Oct 16th; 3:30 to 5 PM.
A proposed project of significant importance to Cupertino, come and hear/see the plans for the project's bike and pedestrian features and ask questions, give your suggestions for bike/ped integration into the community.
Featured Guest speaker is Peter Costa, Principal from Nelson-Nygaard who will present the Vallco Town Center Plan's vision for a traditional downtown layout that connects bicycles and pedestrians to walkable, bike/ped-friendly streets and public spaces.
The presentation will cover new connections for the community both internally and externally throughout the 58-acre Vallco Shopping District as well off-site improvements throughout the City. These improvements will include an array of innovative transportation features including:
Transit Center (with bike share, storage, repair and more);
Off-site bike-way improvements on more than 5 miles of public trails along the 280 sound wall from Wolfe Road to Mary Avenue; the
Rebuilding of the Wolfe Road/I-280 interchange with bike safety improvements.

Walk-Bike Cupertino advocates
safe and easy cycling and walking in the city. This implies better signed routes through neighborhoods that are shorter and quieter for our kids to get to/from school and for our adult population who wants to access shopping districts or for exercise.
At Walk-Bike Cupertino's request, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department has found
no history of problems or crime related to three city areas that are bike/ped friendly: Creekside Park off Miller Avenue, Orion Way and it's access path to the UP rail line and Scenic Circle near Blackberry farms.
Walk-Bike Cupertino Strongly Supports
Making Cupertino the
Bay Area leader for Safe and Easy walking and biking;
Create direct bike-ped pathways;
Educate drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists on best practices and sharing the road;
Embed bicycle safety training in our schools' curriculum;
Incorporate "Way-finder" signage, historical markers and points-of-interest into bike and walking pathways
Support the $15M funding set asidefor Cupertino's strategic walk-bike improvements over the next 5 years.
