PSAT/NMSQT
All 10th grade students will participate in the
PSAT/NMSQT on
October 19, 2016. This test is great practice and preparation for the SAT.
This is a mandatory on-campus assessment for all 10th graders.
A pre-administration session will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from 12:30 - 1 p.m.

RICH EXPERIENCE AT THE GEORGIA AQUARIUM

Students will enjoy an Instructor Led Tour of the
Georgia Aquarium. The aquarium houses
thousands of animals representing several thousand species, all of which reside in 10 million gallons (38,000 m

) of marine and salt water. It is the largest aquarium in the western hemisphere.

4-H Program: STEAM, Leadership Skills, Public Speaking
October 26, 2016
Topic: Drone Discovery
When: Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Where: GOC Campus
This is the second part of a five-part series; students will focus on hands-on engineering design challenge that explores the science behind drones and how they are being used to solve real world problems. Youth will learn everything from flight dynamics and aircraft types, to safety and regulations, to remote sensing and flight control.

ART EXPERIENCE
Altered Book Workshop
October 27, 2016
What: Altered Book Workshop. What is an altered book you ask? An altered book that has been "changed creatively" to make the book into a work of art. In this hands-on Art Experience, each student will receive a book to alter, then they can add to the book with a wide variety of art supplies, and/or they can "take away" pages or parts to make a 3D design. Come have a creatively fun time in this Art Experience!

OWL Read!
Grades 4 - 5
Students in grades 4-5 should be reading daily for a minimum of 30 minutes. Students can track their number of finished books by using the reading chart provided in their Language Arts course. Students that read 20 just right books will be invited to the end-of-the year reading celebration and earn their reading pin. Additional prizes will be awarded to students who make the 30 and 40 book reading mark.

READING IS A HOOT!
Grades 6 - 8
Monday, October 3
is the kickoff date for the
"Reading is a Hoot"
program. Students can participate by accessing
the
Reading Chart through their homeroom. Students will be awarded
points for successfully completing the reading tasks. If students earn at least
100
points they will be invited to the end-of-the-year reading celebration. Additional prizes will be awarded to students who make the
200
or
400
point clubs!
