VOLUNTEER NEWSLETTER
October 2016
Greetings! If you've followed this space for a while, you've likely seen several names in the byline, and I'd like to introduce myself as the newest face to bring volunteer news and happenings to your inbox. My name is Aaron, and I'll be taking the reigns as Food Finders' newest Volunteer Coodinator.
I've already had the pleasure of working with many of you, and I've definitely picked up a few friends in my short time with Food Finders, but if we haven't had a chance to meet yet, let's do something about it!

Food Finders Food Bank has recently moved into a newly remodeled facility, found at 1204 Greenbush St. in Lafayette. If you haven't had a chance to visit yet, come in, say hi, and let's enjoy the new- car smell together.

Hunger Heroes

Because we've had so many great volunteers throughout the Summer, it's been impossible to select a single person to represent our October Volunteer of the Month. Instead, we'd like to recognize all of the amazing volunteer groups that chose to help Food Finders Food Bank as part of the United Way of Greater Lafayette's Month of Caring event.

Each week during September, we were fortunate enough to receive the help of dozens of volunteers, all of whom chose Food Finders to receive their service during the UW  Month of Caring.
At Food Finders Food Bank, volunteers fuel everything we do, and we cannot thank the following groups enough for their help during the month of September:
  • Bioanalytical Systems Inc (BASi)
  • Caterpillar
  • Purdue Digital Education
  • Purdue Human Resources
  • Wabash National

Would you Help?
Drive Away Hunger Fall Food Drive:

Food Finders Food Bank's annual fall food drive, kicks off on Friday, October 21 and runs through Sunday, December 4.

We're reaching out to our community to help stock the food bank's shelves and ensure that the more than 83,000 of our hungry Hoosier neighbors have enough to eat this winter.

Local leaders, along with our generous sponsors and community partners have stepped up to take action against hunger through various food drives and events - they are calling on our caring community to do the same.

Our goal is simple. Raise 450,000 meals in six weeks. What will you do to make a difference?
If you or your organization would like to run a food drive for Food Finders to help us reach our goal, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Aaron for more information . Also, be sure to check out our website for the latest Drive Away Hunger events and details!

Fill the Food Bank Fridays:

Do you have a group that is looking for a volunteer opportunity? Each Friday, from 1 pm - 3 pm, we open our warehouse to "fill the food bank" and conduct a massive volunteer group sort of donated retail meat and baked good product to stock the food bank for the upcoming week. Our partner agencies and direct service programs like the mobile pantry rely on this product on a daily basis. This project allows us to be more efficient in making sure that our high demand meat and baked goods are sorted and ready for distribution each week

Volunteers will sort through donated frozen retail meat and baked goods, throwing away items with broken packaging, and sorting them into assigned categories. This is a great hands-on experience -  product sorted will directly benefit our clients within days!

This project is perfect for individuals or a group of up to 30!  Please call (765.471.0062 x 101) or email our Volunteer Coordinator, Aaron Bieber with questions, or sign up for a specific shift through our online volunteer calendar.

We look forward to volunteering with you!

J.P. Lisack Community Food Pantry needs:

Food Finders is in high need of individual or group volunteers to help with data entry as we transition to a new software system in our pantry. If you are comfortable around computers and can donate time in the next two weeks, we would love your help for any length of time on weekdays between 8am - 7pm or Saturdays 10 am - 4 pm. Contact Katie Powell at [email protected] or 765.471.0062 x113 for more information.

Calling all Hunger Fighters! Our new J.P. Lisack Community Food Pantry has served more than 2,000 customers since its opening in mid-July. We have a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers who are committed to making the pantry a success, but we need to train more to keep up with demand. Our goal is to have six  to eight volunteers per pantry shift so that we can be better equipped to provide excellent service and resources to clients seeking assistance.

Volunteers  are needed to stock shelves, greet clients, help with shopping, check-in and check-out. Contact Katie Powell at [email protected] for details.
