Dovi's Chessed Corner
Grade 6-9 Girls made honey cookies and cards for their friends who are no longer in Akiva . Thank you Morah Greenwald for organizing this kind gesture.

HoneyGrams
Thank you to Morah Safren for organizing Honeygrams (Rosh Hashana cards)  for all students in Grade 1-9. Students got to choose one friend to give to as well to a randomly selected classmate. It was a great way to wish everyone a sweet new year.
Pre-School and Kindergarten Challah Baking
Thank you to the Jacobs family for sponsoring challah dough for pre-school and kindergarten to make their very own challah for Rosh Hashanah. Thanks so much to Mrs. Jacobs for coming in with the dough and helping the students shape their challah. The challah dough was sponsored as a zechut for a refuah sheleima for Eliyahu ben Aliza.

Rosh Hashana Assembly
We had an amazing and meaningful assembly in honour of Rosh Hashana this past Friday. The whole school heard an incredible story from Rabbi Miller about sharing and caring for each other. This was a perfect segway to introduce our focus on Chesed this year at Akiva. Grade 6-9 girls put on a special skit about the power of tefilah. Thank you Morah Greenwald for leading the students in this engaging and inspiring performance. Morah Greenwald then introduced the Birthday Program and gave students whose birthdays fall out in Elul and Tishrei a package to take home and complete. Details about the program are below. All students joined grade 1 and 2 students in singing the Akiva anthem and we closed with Tapuach B'dvash and Rimon at the lunch tables.

Birthday Program
Thank you to Morah Greenwald for initiating the Akiva Birthday Program at our Rosh Hashana Assembly. Students will learn about their Jewish names and birthdays in a meaningful way sharing with their families and fellow students. Please look for your child(rens) birthday bag at the beginning of the month their birthday is in and help them fill out the card, decorate the frame and return it to school to be displayed on our birthday bulletin board.
Akiva Anthem
Come on, there's lots to do
Every day there's something new
Learning here, growing at Akiva.
A Torah Jew I'll try to be,
Think of others, not just me
Bags are packed, we've got the tools, at Akiva school.

Akiva - that is the place for me
Akiva - that's where I want to be
Akiva - learn how to lead the world
To joy and harmony

Camp Horizon Field Trip
The grade one to nine students went on a field trip to Camp Horizon  on Thursday. What an exciting field trip! The staff and students had an amazing time participating in all of the activities. The students were divided into three groups abd each group had their own leader. All groups went orienteering in the forest using their compasses and maps. The Grades 5-9 students were introduced to archery while Grade 1-4 tested their skills on the rope course. Many students were even fortunate enough to spot a coyote while others saw squirrels climbing and preparing for winter. We concluded our day with everyone playing Capture the Flag.
Several students mentioned how wonderful this experience was and were hoping to go again so they could participate in some of the other activities.
