End of Life Care for People with Dementia in RCFE Setting 

Please join us for This two-hour course that will help attendees understand hospice care and how it is a helpful service for dementia residents.

End-of-life care for residents with advanced dementia involves a number of key issues: appropriate management of symptoms including pain and behaviors, involvement in programs such as hospice, and decisions about medical interventions. Aggressive medical treatment for residents with advanced dementia is often inappropriate for medical reasons, has a low rate of success, and can have negative outcomes that hasten functional decline and death.

At the end of this discussion, participants will learn:

• What is hospice care and what does it offer to residents.
• Recognize the signs of pain in dementia residents.
• Benefits of promoting hospice to dementia residents.
• How to coordinate hospice services for dementia residents
