Parent Corner
Don't be blind to differences.
Parents often say that they want their children to be "difference blind." This is both unrealistic and misses the point. Children will notice that Jouain has a different sounding name or that Yasmeen always wears a head scarf to school, or that Rajiv eats foods that look and smell different from what they eat. They will have a natural curiosity about this. As parents, we must help them appreciate and learn about those differences, not pretend that they do not exist. The question is not whether differences exist; it is what message we are sending by teaching children to be "blind" to differences. Unless we as parents are willing to help explain to children what seems strange or different to them, we will never be successful in teaching children to understand and appreciate differences. Community Night Friday, October 7th
The first Community Night was a success! Join us again tonight. This is an opportunity to deepen relationships at FUSW and feel the vibrancy of our community through informal fellowship, small group ministry and youth groups. Congregants of all ages are welcome and we hope that having multiple activities occurring simultaneously will make it easier for families to participate, e.g., while youth are in youth group, parents can attend a ministry group, team meeting or enjoy informal fellowship time. We look forward to deepening the ties of community with you!
- Community dinner is open to everyone at 6:30pm. *Bring your dinner* and a plate to share if you are able, and enjoy fellowship time.
- The Junior High youth group meets with Jed, 7:00-9:30pm. Bring $10 for pizza dinner. The youth will help prepare the Sunday Breakfast Run.
- The Senior High youth group meets with Jen, 7:00-9:30pm. Bring $10 for pizza dinner. The youth will help prepare the Sunday Breakfast Run.
