Krystyna's Korner

Time has really moved quickly since joining the House. We have been slowly adding new evening events for the guests with the hopes that this continues to expand. Polished Girlz was a big hit, as was Teal Canary who helped families decorate wooden pumpkins.

Currently, we are collecting an assortment of prizes for bingo night and have the player rules planned - now all we need are some excited bingo callers!

I want to send a great thank you to Gail Bennett, Tom Wallander, Lori Ball, Linda Satterfield, and Katy Brawley for joining in what I lovingly call the "Pantry Brigade"! These folks are helping to make sure that food donations are ready to come upstairs and making sure that we have a great assortment of ingredients for families who want to cook. They also stock simple heat-and-go foods for those quick breakfasts and lunches. We have also set up a schedule to stock snacks three to four times a week, which keeps our inventory moving but
also allows us to avoid running low or families feeling they need to keep extras. Since making these changes, I've witnessed families cooking and having meal times with the kiddos that are here in the House!   Again, thank you! If you would like to join the brigade, please let me know at Krystyna Karr, [email protected] or at 317-267-0605, ext. 210.

Enjoy a Specialty Hot McCafe' Beverage and Help the House

Pumpkin spice latte season is here!  Now though November 24 you can grab your latte or any specialty hot McCafe' beverage and do some good too, because 20 cents of every cup goes to the RMHCCIN!  This includes Peppermint Moca which is coming soon.

Mission Moment

"Thank you Ronald McDonald House for providing me with food, water and shelter while my little guy recovered at Riley Hospital's NICU!  You guys are awesome!

- Team Bentley."

Volgistics

Thanks everyone for doing such a great job with recording your volunteer hours in Volgistics.   Just a couple of reminders:

  • Please remember to sign in AND out for each shift.  When you do not sign out, Volunteer Resources needs to enter what time you left.
  • If you forget to sign in or sign out, you can use the paper timesheet found at both Limestone and Riley to record your hours.  Volunteer Resources will then enter these hours manually.

Operations Update - Limestone
  • Thank you to those who responded to the survey about potential Guest Services shift hours changes. While we have decided not to change GSV shift times, we will be changing the front office hours effective Monday, October 17. We will be closing the front office at 9 p.m. instead of 9:30 p.m. The GSVs will do the usual closing tasks during the last half hour of their shift.
  • We now need to ask families to check-in no later than 8 p.m. This is a hard deadline. Any exceptions must be approved by the manager on duty.
  • When someone drops off a wish list donation, please check for perishables that need to be refrigerated.
  • Please record both the parking tag number and the vehicle description inside the guest registration card.
  • All Marion County families and Methodist referrals require approval from a Social Worker before they can be added to the wait list.
  • Please remember to hand out the welcome and back home again bags to families checking in and out.

Look Who Was Caught Rolling Out The Red Carpet

Rhonda Hainer recently caught Mike Rhinaman, Guest Services Volunteer (GSV) at the RMH at Riley, displaying cooperation, communication and teamwork.

Rhonda wrote: "Mike volunteered countless hours planning how to maximize the space in the pantry/storage areas. This required moving shelving, reorganizing and categorizing inventory at the RMH at Riley.  The project involved teamwork and cooperation with volunteers assisting him and has created greater organization thereby saving time and providing efficient flow in meal planning for our families."

Thank you, Mike. You are appreciated!

Congratulations Mike!  Your name was drawn this month in our Red Carpet Award drawing and your Crew Carwash pass is in the mail.

Remember if you catch a volunteer rolling out the red carpet and demonstrating excellent customer service, please submit a nomination using the form below listing the criteria.  Printed copies of this form are also available in the front office at both Limestone and Riley.  Each month, all nominations are eligible for a random drawing for a Crew Carwash pass.
