Tropicana Field Master Plan Community Meeting October 20th trop

Join us on Thursday, October 20th at 6:00 pm at the Coliseum as HKS presents their final conceptual plan for the 85-acre Tropicana Field site.

The master plan team spent the past few months listening to and exploring the community's vision for St. Pete. They have created a visionary concept shaped by the thoughts, voices and diverse perspectives from within our community. Come and see how this joint exploration of the strategic approaches for redevelopment of Tropicana Field has taken shape.
Historic Manhattan Casino open for tours October 14th casino

St. Petersburg celebrates Minority Enterprise Development Week with an Open House at the historic Manhattan Casino, 642 22nd Street South, on Friday, October 14, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
 
The community and interested stakeholders are invited to walk through the facility. The first and second floors will be open during the 90-minute Open House event. City officials are offering this opportunity for small and minority businesses to look at the facility before the Manhattan Casino RFP (Request for Proposal) is released later this month. Entities interested in the upcoming RFP are encouraged to attend.

St. Petersburg EDC becoming a reality as J.P. DuBuque named president edc

The St. Petersburg Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is getting ready to launch. J.P. DuBuque, who recently served as the interim CEO of the Tampa/Hillsborough EDC, will become the EDC's president beginning November 7th.

"St. Petersburg is building an enviable brand as an inclusive, forward-thinking community that can stack up quite favorably against any other market when it comes to opportunity for success and quality of life. I can't wait to work with all the partners in this city to show the world what we have become," said DuBuque.
Total construction value in FY16 sets a new record permits


The fiscal year ended on September 30th and the results are in... FY16 was our biggest year ever for total construction value with $654,677,009 permitted! This represents a 40% increase over FY15. After FY16, the next biggest year for construction was FY07 with $635,400,369 permitted. Between FY15 and FY16, the t otal number of permits issued increased 13.17% and the city saw almost 17% more in permit revenue.
"Test the Waters" on the Cross-Bay Ferry, November 4-18 ferry

Ferry service begins next month! Community and business organizations are invited to "test the waters" November 4-18 for pre-scheduled trips. During Thanksgiving week, the public can test the ferry for free. View the schedule, rates, and ferry info on the new Cross-Bay Ferry website. Tickets go on sale November 1st.

Residents can receive a free roundtrip commuter ticket for participating in an online survey designed to help HMS better understand our community's needs a preferences. Take the survey here.
Check I'm Here raises $1 million in funding check


Check I'm Here, a St. Petersburg-based startup, caught national attention in TechCrunch recently for their success in raising a million dollars of funding to grow their cloud-based platform which helps colleges and universities manage, track, assess, and engage students with campus activities. Some of the angel investors include Jeff Vinik, owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Ronald Scholosser, the former Executive Chairman of McGraw-Hill Education. Et Cultura Festival debuting in St. Pete, November 16-20 et


Et Cultura Festival comes to St. Petersburg November 16-20 bringing an impressive array of events and entertainment including films, music, a makers market, talks, and yoga. Many of the events will take place in the EDGE District at Green Bench or along Baum Avenue. This is the first time that a SXSW-style festival has come to St. Petersburg showcasing local talent as well as introducing traveling artists to our city.
Help PSTA improve service downtown! Take the quick circulator survey psta

As you may have heard, the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) is working with the City of St. Petersburg to develop and improve local transit service within the downtown area. There's already a bus service connecting people from around the region to our Sunshine City, but PSTA   would like to take this a step further by building a better circulator system. This system will help get those riders, including the new ferry riders, around downtown St. Pete more quickly and easily.
 
PSTA needs our input for their downtown circulation study. You can help by participating in and distributing the two surveys below:
Hamburger Mary's opens in Tyrone area tyrone

On October 3rd, Hamburger Mary's celebrated their grand opening of their newest location. Opening across from Tyrone Square Mall at 2901 Tyrone Blvd, Hamburger Mary's can host up to 250 patrons in 6,000 SF of space that includes an outdoor patio. Hamburger Mary's, known as a fun LGBT-friendly spot, has other popular locations in Ybor City and Clearwater.
Icelandair coming to TIA in 2017 tia

Tampa International Airport (TIA) landed another major international flight with Icelandair announcing nonstop service from Tampa to Reykjavik, Iceland beginning September 7, 2017. With Iceland being a popular stopover destination to the rest of Europe, this new flight connects Tampa area travelers to 25+ European destinations while opening our area to receiving more European tourists.

Several significant nonstop flights have come to TIA in recent years including Edelweiss Air to Zurich, Switzerland, Copa Airlines to Panama City, Lufthansa to Frankfurt, Germany, United Airlines to San Francisco, and soon Southwest Airlines will be offering service to Cuba.
