YOUR LOCAL UNITED WAY IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
This is YOUR Community

The United Way of York County held its 2016-2017 Campaign Kick-off at the Baxter Hood Center on September 20th. Over 135 supporters attended and enjoyed a wonderful lunch catered by Melanie Rowe. This event is made possible with the sponsorship of Duke Energy and Publix.

Chairman Harvey Hawkins recognized Dan Love and Allison Harvey for their dedicated service on our Board of Directors over the past 6 years. Kevin Tolson, our Palmetto Leadership Society Chair, thanked donors for their past support by giving a leadership gift of at least $600. Our 2016-2017 Campaign Chair, Sabrina Gast, applauded business and individuals for their dedicated support of United Way. Contributions to United Way assist in finding new solutions to old problems while mobilizing resources and inspiring others to fight for the education, financial stability, and health of every person in our community.

With your support we can raise $1.54 million and work together to make York County a better place to live. Great things happen when we LIVE UNITED.

Preparation for Winter Warming Center

Can you believe we are preparing for our 10th year of the Men's Warming Center at Bethel United Methodist Church?

Shelters in York County are scarce and the number of homeless individuals is steadily rising.  The Warming Center provides a warm, safe, dry place for men to sleep during the coldest months of the year- November through March.  The Center provides emergency shelter during the winter months when other year-round homeless shelters are filled to capacity.  Nightly, the men are provided a meal prepared by volunteers, a warm bed, fellowship, and a place for their personal belongings.

If you are interested in volunteering with the Warming Center there will be a volunteer orientation Read More

On Monday, September 26th we offered a Grant Writing 201 workshop to agencies in our community. It was a wonderful training that was well attended. Over 30 community agencies attended with a goal of learning how they can be efficient in grant writing and fundraising. Dr. Paul McKenzie, our workshop instructor, did a marvelous job educating our community agencies. Attendees were promoted from "PB&J grant writers to Brunswick Stew grant preparers".
Thank you to all of our partners that participated in this great training opportunity.
