President's Report
PRISM Social Celebration Oct. 13 leads full month of events
|
As we enter the fourth quarter of 2016, we have a very busy October. First and foremost, this month’s video focuses on the immediate improvements we are going to make to PRISMs, beginning with our FREE PRISMs Social Celebration on Thursday, Oct. 13. This is being held to correctly award all of our winners from this year. To RSVP, contact Celeste Burks, APR, no later than 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Another PRISMs improvement for next year is to include an additional consultant – with senior specialization or experience with event planning – to help oversee the event and act as an additional resource to ensure processes run smoothly. If you would like to volunteer for this PRISM event consultant role, please contact President-Elect Jean Peat, APR. Thank you for your continued patience as we work to make PRISMs the event it deserves to be once again in 2017.
Our other big event this month is PRSSA Summit on Oct. 21. While mostly a full day of professional development for area students, members and guests are invited to attend our keynote luncheon featuring Lamar Hunt, Jr. This is also a great opportunity to interact with the students as they enjoy speaking with experienced PR professionals.
Not to be outdone, next week we also feature a pair of great events as well:
Much is happening this month with our PRISMs recovery, combined with a great slate of quality programming and development opportunities for members and guests. Visit us on our social channels (top of newsletter) for the latest updates as we strive to be the professional resource and advocate for Kansas City’s PR and Communications community. We look forward to seeing all of you at our PRISMs Social Celebration on Oct. 13!
Andy DiOrio, APR GKC-PRSA President

Helping furry friends is a full-time focus for animal welfare organizations such as Great Plains SPCA and KC Pet Project, and it takes a special sort of human to share the countless stories that range from heartwarming to heartbreaking. Vocal advocates for a No-Kill community, these organizations collaborate with partners and peers around the metro to promote pet adoption, retention, identification, reunions and pet ownership education. At this New Pros event, we'll gather in the biergarten at KC Bier Co. to hear paws-itively inspiring tales (or tails). More

We also extend a very large thank you to NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) as the premium sponsor for our PRISMs Social Celebration. Below are details for the event:

We all went through it – the huge leap from college to career. In the PR world, it’s an even larger leap. Should you move? If so, where? Do you want to pursue an agency or in-house position? What’s the difference, anyway? What do all of the different PR titles mean? What do they require? How should you tailor your resume to land your dream job? But first, what is your dream job? Who should you network with, and how? If only the classroom taught you how to break into this whole “real world” thing! More
