The OLMA Overview -- October 6, 2016
We had a record attendance at this year's Communion Breakfast -- thanks to all of you. The energy in the building was awesome. I hope you will continue to attend as many school events as possible all year long. This week, the Environmental Science class spent a day exploring the salt marshes via kayaks. It was a great way to get up close and personal with nature at its best. Tomorrow, we are expecting nearly 100 young women from private and public schools throughout South Jersey to shadow with us. We have a great day planned. It begins with a brief assembly and prayer service, followed by four academic classes. After lunch, the girls and their shadows will rotate through three activities -- Volleyball, a service project and Q&A with upperclassmen. The entire school met yesterday to review plans for the day, so we are ready to go! If you know anyone who might be interested in OLMA but cannot shadow on Friday, please encourage them to contact us. We'd be happy to arrange a visit on another day. Finally, past issue of The OLMA Overview are always available on our website, as are daily headlines. We hope you'll check them out. Be safe and enjoy the holiday weekend! -- Mrs. Coyle

Madison Hagerty, Class of 2017
We often say that OLMA finds the athlete in the girl as so many of our students try new sports -- and are pleasantly surprised by how good they are! In the case of Madison Hagerty, it was a sport that brought her to OLMA. "I came to Open House and really liked the school, but it was the phone call I received from the captain of the soccer team that clinched my decision to come to OLMA," said Madison. "She invited me to come and practice with the team. I loved it and decided to stay. Four years later, I'm so glad for so many reasons." Along the way, Madison, traded in her soccer ball for a softball -- a sport she played all four years at OLMA. "I still love soccer, but softball is my game," she said.
Now a senior, Madison is co-captain of the softball team. She's the catcher and and her younger sister, Morgan, is the pitcher. "I was excited for Morgan to come to OLMA," said Madison. "Playing softball together has always brought closer. It's great to continue that here at OLMA."
Madison says she treasures all of her close relationships here at OLMA. "The sense of sisterhood is really special here," she said. "In a larger school, there's a good chance that I'd be swallowed up. That's not the case here where there are so many opportunities to shine.." In her junior year, Madison did just that as she and classmate, Dana Durham, teamed up to start a blood drive at OLMA. It was so successful that it will now be repeated annually. Madison also participates in other service projects and recently joined the Interact Club. "I like making people smile," said Madison. "It makes me happy to see them happy."
The same is true with her part-time job at Edgarton Christian Academy where she works with students in preschool on up through grade eight. "I work with the preschool students one day and help the older kids in homework club the next," she said. "There's nothing like walking into the school and having the little ones run into my arms." This love of working with children has inspired Madison to pursue a career in education -- something she hopes to do at Loyola, Rowan or Immaculata next fall. Any one of them would be luck y to have you!
