2009 Conterno  Fantino Barolo Vigna Del Gris

Michele and I are always on the lookout for forgotten small lots of classis vintages in specific regions. In that pursuit we ran across 9 six pack cases of exceptional small production Barolo amongst an inventory too big to take notice of 9 six pack cases. The 2009 vintage of Conterno Fantino  Barolo Vigna Del Gris is a classic example of multi layered Barolo. The Conterno delights with a  complex mixture of cherry, wild berry and finally- spicy black fruit. For Barolo particularly, the 2009 vintage is considered one of the greatest. The wines have silky tannins, bright polished fruit and wonderful nuances of spice. This Conterno exhibits all of these aspects and to a heightened degree. Rex

The lowest price we could find on the net is $70.00 The Average is $75.00 (625 cases produced )

Robert Parker Wine Advocate ; The 2009 Barolo Vigna del Gris is a beautiful expression of Nebbiolo that will require many years of cellar aging to find its legs. Now in its infancy, it shows oak-driven notes of spice, cigar box and toast, but there's enough red berry, tar, licorice and mint at the back to count on steady integration in the future. Like all three Barolos presented here, this wine shows impressive depth and structure. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027. 93 points Parker

Wine Spectator; Fresh and expressive, boasting cherry, menthol, leather and spice flavors, married to a firm, well-integrated structure. Stays balanced and persistent through the long, savory aftertaste. Best from 2016 through 2029.  91 points Wine Spectator Magazine
