RESA LESSON CYCLE WEBINAR
If you haven't viewed the webinar on Lesson Cycle, it is definitely worth your time. This excellent webinar gives actual examples of a low score and high score on the lower performing rubrics (exactly what the RESA candidates have been asking for in the past!)

The deadline for RESA the first Lesson Cycle and the Communication and Professional Growth task is DECEMBER 15. Please remember there are NO extensions, so be sure to adhere to this deadline. You should be working on both tasks now. Below is a brief description of the tasks. Refer to the RESA instrument and the participant guide for detail explanations of the task requirements. Follow all the RESA directions carefully. Pay particular attention to the sections titled "Avoid Disqualification".

FIRST LESSON CYCLE TASK - WHAT YOU MUST DO
1. Choose a lesson that allows you to demonstrate all of the following:
  • Important content clearly connected to your school and district priorities, the
  • Ohio Academic Content Standards, and/or national standards for subject
  • areas that do not have Ohio Academic Content Standards
  • Academically rigorous expectations for student learning
  • Explanation or demonstration of content
  • Direct engagement with students during the lesson, allowing you to demonstrate questioning strategies and other varied instructional strategies and materials differentiated as appropriate for student needs
  • The way(s) you use formative assessment strategies as part of the instructional process
  • Your provision of a classroom environment conducive to learning-for example, positive interactions, academic rigor, and efficient management of learning activities, students, and materials

2. Record the lesson. Do not pause or stop the video while you are recording your class, and do not attempt to edit your video before uploading it to the submission system or your submission will be disqualified. Refer to the Uploading, Segmenting, and Submitting Evidence Reference Guide in Section F of the Participant Guide for more details on recording lesson videos.

3. Collect all of your instructional evidence for this lesson and convert the related digital files into acceptable file formats as required. Please see Section F: Uploading, Segmenting, and Submitting Evidence Reference Guide (Video, Audio, and PDFs) inthe Participant Guide for information on which file types are accepted. Form 1.3 in the Instrument and the RESA Instructional Evidence Reference Guide in Section G of the
Participant Guide provide more information about instructional evidence.

4. Complete Forms 1.1-1.5 online. If you have questions about terminology found in the  task forms, please refer to Section K: Glossary of Key Terms as They Are Used in the RESA in the Participant Guide.

TIPS FOR VIDEOS FROM YOUR COLLEAGUES WHO TOOK RESA LAST YEAR
  • If possible have someone videotape you. That way you can just concentrate on your teaching and not worry about the videotaping.
  • Many RESA candidates have had a better experience when using a tablet to videotape.
  • Practice, practice, practice - don't depend on just one video. Shoot several so you can choose the best one to submit.
  • The camera cannot be stopped at any time. If you are going from related to lab, the camera must run and show the transition.
  • Turn off sleep before uploading (it will take one minute to load for each minute of video)

WHAT ASSESSORS SEE AS THEY SCORE RESA
The following offers some insight as what the assessors see as they score submissions:
  • Assessors can go back and review the Context Form as well as the video as often as they need.
  • Assessors see the candidate's responses to all questions that are assessed using the same rubric. Once that portion has been assessed the responses CANNOT be seen again by the assessor. Therefore, you might have to restate some of your responses if another rubric requires that same info.
  • For Lesson Cycle Tasks - assessors only see the 15 minutes that you selected with a still life picture of your beginning and ending of your lesson
  • If there is PII info in other segments of the video, but NOT the 15 minutes you select, the video will be scorable.  In other words, if there is PII info in your lesson, do NOT select that portion for your 15 minutes.
