We travelled to some birdy places today. We were helped out by the weather in terms of bird activity. However, the overcast skies were not conducive to good photography.

Osprey
I'm not sure what the carrying capacity is for osprey in Boulder County, but apparently it is quite high. They seemed to be everywhere this morning. Also of note, are the numerous nesting poles that have been erected around the county. I don't know if these were specifically for osprey, but the osprey sure have taken them over. Not too long ago, the Colorado Division of Wildlife ran Operation Osprey to establish nesting pairs along the Front Range. Well it certainly has worked. In a semi-arid environment such as ours, it is surprising to me that we have such a large population of fish eating birds. Of course, we wouldn't have osprey if the landscape had not been changed so radically by the trapping of water which has created fisheries.
