The schedule for this conference includes an array of gardening sessions, tours, a mini film festival, a regional mixer to network with other Master Gardeners, and a trade show.
During your stay, Portland's farm-to-table connections will become evident. Our conference will kick off with a "Taste of Oregon" reception Monday evening featuring appetizers made from fresh, Pacific Northwest ingredients. Locally grown food continues to be the star of daily lunches, included with registration, Tuesday through Thursday.
Portlanders enjoy a multitude of restaurants and food carts in downtown Portland and in its thriving neighborhoods. You may wish to explore them as well. Within a short drive or ride on public transportation (MAX, bus) from the Convention Center are the Pearl District (home of Powell's City of Books, art galleries, and restaurants) and Hawthorne District (a street to explore adventurous eating and indie boutiques).
Our speaker committee endeavored to offer some insight into this farm-to-table culture. One of the speakers, Marc Boucher-Colbert, is a pioneer in this local food movement. Marc started one of Portland's first community supported farms in1993 and later co-founded Zenger Farm which is still a thriving venture. Since 2005, he has been gardening on the roof top above the Noble Rot restaurant.
