Welcome to BUSINESS TALK, the City of Marion newsletter that provides a monthly snapshot of what's happening in your business community.
Business success is essential to the future of the City of Marion as a place to live, learn, work and invest.  
We are here for our business community to:
  • Be your first point of contact at Council,
  • Provide local business support services through business associations, including the Tonsley Small Business Advisory Service and the Tonsley Business Support Ecosystem,
  • Help you connect with local businesses, skilled people and training providers,
  • Offer networking, information and education,
  • Lead local initiatives such as Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board, Visitor Economy, Digital projects, Workforce Development,
  • Activate the Cove Enterprise Hub and Tonsley Business Hub; and
  • Advocate on regional issues.

National Safe Work Month 2016
This month our focus is on Work Health and Safety because October is Safe Work Month.

What does being safe in the workplace mean to you and your staff?
In October we'd love you to find out and promote health and safety in your workplace.

National Ride2Work Day - 12 October 2016

National Ride2Work Day is the largest celebration of commuter riding in Australia. Held annually in October, the day celebrates the benefits of riding to work and brings together the communities that support it.

October is nationally recognised as Defibrillator Awareness Month. 
This Shoctober your workplace can help show it cares about cardiac arrest survival.  Shoctober makes helping easy by providing the tools and resources that a workplace would need. For more information, visit  shoctober.org.au

Eat, play, stay, shop or offer a service to visitors?
There is yet another way that you can promote your business locally.
The City of Marion in partnership with the Visitor Economy Working Group are launching a new website called Seven Days in Marion. We are looking for City of Marion businesses that offer accommodation, food, services or anything to visitors to be included in the online business directory.

The largest business expo in Southern Adelaide is here - Grow Your Business Expo.

The City of Marion, in partnership with our business support partners, has created a large regional business event on Thursday 24 November 2016 from 3pm - 7pm.  This is your chance to find out more about business services, grants and technologies that could help grow your business.
Drop in between 3.00-5.00pm to meet with business support exhibitors, listen to businesses that have grown their business and find out how they did it, or take a walking tour of a facility within the Tonsley precinct. Alternatively sign up for the End of year networking celebration between 5.00-7.00pm.  For more information or to register click here bookings essential.


Open State (18 - 27 October 2016)

Places that are open to new ideas, new people and new technologies create new opportunities. An 'Open State' is a state that welcomes new ideas, from both within and outside its borders, to transform its economy and create new industries and jobs.
When communities, governments and businesses work together, they become a powerful force for change. This is the essence of 'Open State'.

One of the events being staged during the program is Icebreaker 16 Octover 19th, organised by the New Venture Institute at Flinders University and hosted in Tonsley.  It is aiming to capture the Guinness Book of World Records award for the largest speed networking event with some 1,200+ people.
