Our cutting edge research speaks for itself, but we also win high praise for our teaching expertise. To that end, we have two stories in this issue highlighting the outstanding teaching efforts of Dr. Jim Hazzard (Biochemistry laboratory course) and Dr. John Pollard (Freshman Chemistry course), an appropriate theme as May 2015 Commencement is just a few weeks away. Enjoy!

Walter Rudzinski (PhD in Chemistry, 1977) - I retired in January 2015 and have moved my family to Spain for 6 months so our 13-year old daughter can be immersed in the culture and learn Spanish, duplicating an opportunity I had while I was in high school. We hope to enjoy bird watching in Southern Spain, travel, and play some golf on the Costa del Sol.

Dale D. Swanson  (MS in

Chemistry, 1979) - I love teaching chemistry at Boise State and doing research with my students. In my spare time, I have been studying Italian for 7 years and am fairly fluent. I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do as well as a 2nd degree black belt in Kung Fu.

Colin Jones-Weinert (BS in

Biochemistry & Molecular and Cellular Biology, 2012) - I am currently employed at SynCardia Systems, Inc. and am pursuing an MBA through the UA Eller College of Management's evening program. Life is going great! It has ramped up a bit in intensity due to the demands of work and school, but I am ready for the challenge.

Julie Cheung (BS in

Biochemistry, 2014) - I've been working as a lab technician for the Beilstein Lab in the School of Plant Sciences here at the UA, where I work on my own projects, mentor undergraduate students, and manage the laboratory.
