Hurricane Matthew Update -  October 4, 2016
Dear friend,

On behalf of the staff and people served by Heartline Ministries, I want to thank you for your outpouring of prayer and support in the wake of Hurricane Matthew's landfall in Haiti early this morning. Hurricane Matthew is the first Category 4 storm to directly hit Haiti since 1964.

We are deeply grateful to report that all Heartline staff members are safe. While there is significant flooding across Port-au-Prince, we praise God that the apparent sustained damage is better than the worst case scenario. All Heartline programs were closed today due to safety concerns with the exception of the Beltis Bakery, where men diligently worked to bake and share bread.

Please continue praying for our vulnerable brothers and sisters in the hardest hit southwestern region of Haiti, where life-threatening winds, historic rainfall, and anticipated mudslides are putting many at risk. The potential losses and extent of damage are unknown at this point, but significant destruction is predicted.

In the coming hours and days, we will continue to assess the storm's impact and create a response plan based on the most pressing needs of our staff and the people we serve in and around Port-au-Prince. We will mobilize relief supplies such as clean water, food aid, tarps, medical care, household supplies, and other critical items as necessary to meet emergency needs. We will also determine how to support partner organizations working in the hardest hit region of Haiti.

Many of you have asked how you can support Heartline during this time. I will reach out once we have a clearer understanding of the emergency needs facing our staff and the people we serve through Heartline's programs.

Ways to Help Right Now:
  • Pray. Please pray for safety, protection, and relief assistance for victims, especially those in the worst hit regions of the country.
  • Follow. We will post ongoing updates to our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. Please follow us there to stay connected.
It is times like these that strengthen our resolve to empower Haitian families to rise out of extreme poverty. It is comforting to know you are faithfully standing with us.

Gratefully,
Troy Livesay
Director, Heartline Ministries

Thank you for your continued prayer and support of our ministry
