As many of you are aware, Jacksonville and the First Coast were in the cross hairs of one of the most powerful hurricanes we have ever seen as the last hit by a hurricane in Jacksonville was Dora in 1964. We curtailed our annual pilgrimage to Hershey to return to Jacksonville to fine tune our defense plan. We are pleased to announce that the entire staff escaped experiencing major damage to their homes and the concours office was untouched. We are very fortunate that Hurricane Matthew took a slight turn to the east once it passed Daytona and passed about 60 miles off shore. We do not mean to diminish the tragedy that some coastal residence experienced, but had the storm stayed on track, it would have been much worse. I am sure the effects of the Gulf Stream had a lot to do with the track of the storm as it approached Jacksonville Beach.
Some of us are still without power, internet, and television, which in fact can be somewhat of a blessing. One of our Board members, Dick Messer, recently moved from Los Angeles and purchased a home on the ocean in Ponte Vedra. Against our recommendations, he decided to ride the storm out in his house. His comment before the storm was, "After this is all over, I'll let you know what I prefer, earthquakes or hurricanes". His comment on Saturday afternoon was that he preferred earthquakes.
Thank you again for all your concerns as we, too, were anticipating the worst case scenario. As it turned out for us, it was but an inconvenience. All of us at the concours office thank you for the concerns for our safety that have been expressed in e-mails and text messages. We are now focused on Amelia 2017 and look forward to honoring Al Unser, Sr. and presenting a first class program you have all come to expect of us.

About The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance
Now in its third decade, the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is among the top automotive events in the world. Always held the second full weekend in March, "The Amelia" draws over 250 rare vehicles from collections around the world to The Golf Club of Amelia Island and The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island for a celebration of the automobile like no other. Since 1996, the show's Foundation has donated over $3.0 million to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Inc., Spina Bifida of Jacksonville, The Navy Marine Corps Relief Society, Shop with Cops, and other deserving charities.
