The DD Council & Maryland Works, Inc. Announce Grants to Fourteen Providers
Congratulations to the fourteen licensed providers of services for the Developmental Disabilities Administration recently awarded almost a total of $130,000 in grant funding. Known as TIP grants (Transforming and Improving Practices through Customized Technical Assistance), funds will help grantees pay for technical assistance from subject matter experts so that people with developmental disabilities have improved employment outcomes   and more opportunities for meaningful participation in their communities when not working. Five grantees are in rural areas. All will participate in a learning community to share successes, challenges, strategies, and best practices.  The providers are:
  • Appalachian Parent Association
  • Bay Community Support Services
  • CHANGE, Inc.
  • CHI Centers
  • Head Injury Rehabilitation & Referral Services
  • Humanim & Compass (jointly funded)
  • Itineris
  • Providence Center

"Providers were selected for demonstrating a clear committment to ensuring people work and meaningfully participate in their communities," said Council Deputy Director, Rachel London, adding, "These grantees showed a willingness and readiness to change the way services and supports are provided, reflecting the Council's mission to advance the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all facets of community life."

Michael Shriver, Executive Director of Change, Inc., shown below presenting to the Council at a recent meeting, noted: "The TIP grant will enable CHANGE, Inc. to assist individuals in gaining individualized and meaningful employment, one person at a time. We appreciate the value added of this grant, and the partnership with the Maryland DD Council and MD Works."
