Thursday Men's Small Group
This 3-month weekly small group through November, 7:30-9:00 a.m. in the Living Room with Pastor Dave. Each week there will be (1) a discussion of one chapter of the Gospel of Mark, with special attention to how to read the Bible in a way that speaks into our everyday experience; (2) an exploration of our personal spiritual journeys; and (3) prayer for one another's joys and concerns.
|
Women's Bible Study
Please join Pastor Kyle at 10:00 a.m. on the 1st Tuesday of the month in the Living room.
This year we will be discussing "
Who is Jesus?", as we look at Jesus from the various lenses of the Gospel writers and Paul. To purchase a book, please contact
Pastor Kyle or
Karen Scouten ($8.00).
|
Men's First Light Collaborative
On Saturday, 10/1, we start a new study -
Colossians and Philemon: A 12-Week Study (Knowing the Bible)
by Christopher A. Beetham (Author), J. I. Packer (Editor)
The books of Colossians and Philemon complement each other as two New Testament texts that gloriously display the gospel and its implications for how God's people should live today. This short guide will help readers see how both letters resonate with the apostle Paul's overriding passion: magnifying Jesus Christ as the supreme manifestation of God's redemptive purposes.
Breakfast starts at 7:00 a.m. next to the kitchen.
Please contact us
to be sure we have enough bacon for all.

FPC Book Club
Lab Girl by Hope Jahren is our September "good read" for FPC book club. The New York Times says of Hope Jahren's book: "her engrossing new memoir, "Lab Girl," is at once a thrilling account of her discovery of her vocation and a gifted teacher's road map to the secret lives of plants." She talks about the differences and similarities between humans and plants, interspersed with her own story of growing up in a small Minnesota town, with her Scandinavian great-grandparents.
Join us on Thursday, September 29th, 7:00 in the Parish House living room for great discussion and fun fellowship.

Light Up The Night Gala and Auction
The invitations are out, and the first responses are in, for our Dinner Auction Gala on Nov. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Hilton in Lisle. The volunteers supporting this event are busy with their assigned tasks and reaching out to our members and the vendors in the community.
We have quite a number of members who have offered items/experiences for the auction (dinner party for 8, anyone?). At least two circles have met and are planning their contributions (the table decorations at the dinner and a basket of delectable drink options).

Church Security Update
We have made great progress with our Security measures, and want to let you know about some new procedures. The Lower Level and Gym doors are now locked during preschool hours 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., from Monday - Friday, during the school year from September to May. If you are scheduled to meet in the lower level rooms at that time, or need access to the lower level space (LL 105-107 or the Gym), you will need to check-in at the church office before your event for instructions and access.
We will eventually be locking the Church's exterior doors and employing a buzzer/camera system to give access to the building during the office hours. Once that is installed and operational, more information will be provided. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Jan Buscher
or call (630) 668-5147.
