Parents and Guardians,

What a Homecoming week and weekend! We had a full schedule of events, and I know for many of our students, this is a memorable part of their high school experience. I hope this past week was enjoyable for you and them, and that they had a great time participating in the week's activities.

Please take a few minutes to look at the information listed below so you are aware of upcoming events and important information.

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal

Community Band Performance TONIGHT
After getting rained out over the weekend, the LHS band will be giving a community performance tonight under the lights at 7:45 PM. They will be going through the whole process as if it is a contest, complete with some guest judges. If you are free and want to see and hear the show in a quiet environment (except for the applause of course!) please come out this evening. The show is 8 minutes long so it will be short and sweet.

Parking for Daytime Events
This is a reminder that we have changed our parking policy in regards to campus events that are scheduled during school hours. Due to the increase in the number of student-assigned parking spots in the back parking lot, we ask that parents park in the front, and we will have a sign-in table just inside the cafeteria.

Student Recognition

LHS Jazz Band
Congratulations to Jazz Band members at All-Region Jazz auditions. Lovejoy HS band members will be making up one fourth of the All Region Band with us landing 5 of the sought-after 20 positions available in the group! We had more students chosen than all other 5A schools in the region, and all but one large 6A school!

Congrats to the following students:
Jack Supan: Guitar (1st Chair!)
Ethan Etchieson: Vibes (1st Chair!)
Garrett Martin: Trombone
Sam Oates: Trumpet
Joel Reeves: Trumpet

A special recognition to Leo Dobson, Kainoa Keolakainoa, Megan Taylor, and Patrick O'Brien for all being alternates and having at least one first place vote from a judge. They were all among the best in the room, which is all we can ever ask for!

LHS Drumline Contest Results
The LHS Drumline placed 9th recently at the HEB Drumline Contest. One of the judges, 16 time DCI Gold Medalist Scott Johnson, had the Lovejoy Drumline in 4th place for General Effect. Click here to enjoy the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_Wu2UK4oUc.

LHS Cross Country Fall Festival
Varsity Girls   finished 15th in a 21-team race with a top-5 average time of 21:21.04 Sophomore Carson Hockersmith (20:09.86, 31st in scoring) led the group followed by senior Shaelyn Ballard (21:15.12, 70th), sophomore Avery Silliman (21:40.10, 87th), freshman Lacey Pelkowski (21:49.13, 93rd), junior Emily Gueller (21:50.00, 94th), senior Noelle Franz (21:50.67, 96th), freshman Sophia Estes (21:52.59, 98th), and freshman Andrea Richardson (21:57.86, 114th overall). This gave Lovejoy 8 runners under 22 minutes, with a 3-8 split time of only 17.86 seconds. Well done.

Varsity Boys   race, a true black-and-blue event - extremely challenging competition. Plano West (a 6A powerhouse) eked out the victory over 2nd and 3rd place finishers Lovejoy and El Paso Americas (6A) by a slim 96-99-103 score. The squad was again led by senior Grant Tiff (16:12.51,12th place in scoring) who bettered his best Myers Park time from last fall of 16:28.00, followed by freshman Brady Laboret (16:17.23, 13th place), sophomore Brett Pedersen (16:21.31, 16th place), junior Ryan Brands (16:40.90, 24th place) and junior Bradley Davis (16:43.41, 34th place) concluded Lovejoy's scoring. The remaining 5 Lovejoy runners ... junior Ryan Spruell (16:37.40, 42nd overall), senior Nate Hartter ( went under 17:00 for his first time @ 16:47.43, 43rd overall), freshman Will Muirhead ( is on the threshold @ 17:06.17, 63rd overall), junior William Godfrey (17:07.15, 66th overall), and junior Christian Sutter (18:05.10, 135th overall). So 9 of Lovejoy's runners were at 17:07 or better, which is incredible on the Myers Park course.

Lovejoy Events and Activities

Sign-Up to be a Senior Project Judge
Senior Project is an exciting part of every LHS senior's experience as they explore topics of their choice and share what they learn with members of the community. There are different components of the project including creating a proposal, writing an annotated bibliography, and completing an activity. As the culminating event of their Senior Project, students give an 8-10 minute presentation about their experience to a panel of adult volunteer judges. These judges score students on their presentation skills and give them feedback designed to help them in their future pursuits. As the Senior Project Coordinators, we want to extend to you the invitation to share in this experience as a Senior Project Judge. Presentations will take place this year at Lovejoy High School on November 15th, December 7th, January 17th and February 16th. Presentations will begin at 5:30 p.m. and should conclude by 9:00 at the latest. Dinner will be provided each evening.
**Please note: There are only 4 opportunities to serve as a Senior Project judge this year. As a result, we will require more judges per evening than we traditionally needed in the past.

If you would like to sign up, please visit the website below.
Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] with questions.
Thank you in advance for your consideration!
