Dear Schofield Families,

Each month we will be emailing a monthly newsletter with important dates and information. In addition to the newsletter, we will use Facebook to communicate with our families. Be sure to "Like" our page and check it often for reminders and student learning highlights. Our website is also a great source for information. Be sure to check it out at republicschools.org.

School Improvement Plan

The students and educators of Schofield Elementary are excited to present their goals for learning and leading at Schofield Elementary this year!

Academic Goals
Educators and students will be working to reach the following academic goals:
More than 80% of students will be proficient with literacy, writing and numeracy standards.

Attendance Goal
For attendance, Schofield will be working toward the following goal:
More than 93% of students will be present at school 90% of the time. Check out our Attendance Wall!

Discipline Goal
Finally, students will be working towards self discipline and responsibility by using the 7 Habit to be safe, respectful and responsible to have 30 or less discipline referrals each month.

Every student in the building made a pledge to be a lifelong learner and leader by placing their handprint on the Lifelong Learning and Leading Wall to reach these goals.

Student Celebrations

In addition to celebrating classroom goals, Schofield would also like to celebrate student accomplishments outside of the classroom. Please send a picture and description of your child's celebration to the below email addresses and we will add it to our Schofield Spotlight board in the cafeteria. No celebration is too big or small. We want to hear about the fun things happening outside of the school walls. Pictures can also be sent to your child's teacher. Pictures will be displayed in the cafeteria for everyone to enjoy!

Safe, Respectful and Responsible

Schofield students have been busy celebrating using the 7 Habits of Happy Kids to be safe, respectful and responsible all month! Students earn Tiger Paws for following expectations and when the class has a total of 50 paws, they spin the Celebration Wheel! We have a total of three classes in the 100 Club on the Paw of Fame wall. Congratulations to the following classes: Ms. Rose's First Graders, Ms. Pitchford's Kindergarteners and Ms. Hutcheson's Fifth Graders! They are well on their way to making the 200 Club!

Students met their goal of 30 or less discipline referrals for the month of August and are on their way to meeting their goal for September. Stay tuned to see how the lifelong learners and leaders of Schofield celebrate meeting this goal!

Schofield's Parent Advisory Committee

Schofield's Parent Advisory Committee met this month and covered the following topics: Schoolwide Title Reading Program, Schofield's School Improvement Program and 21st Century Literacy Skills.  The district's literacy coaches shared information about 21st Century Literacy Skills and ways to support your child with reading at home.  Members also provided feedback to help Schofield Elementary continue to improve their programming. If you are interested in joining this important committee, please contact Ms. Coursey at [email protected].
Schofield's Counseling Program

Ms. Pietruszynski, Schofield Elementary's counselor for kindergarten, first and second grades, met with students this month to introduce herself and discuss the role of a school counselor.  A flyer was given to each student to share with his or her family and students participated in a class activity matching the roles of the school counselor to different pictures discussed during the lesson. Students will learn the importance of listening and how they listen with not only their ears, but their whole body when Ms. Pietruszynski visits again.

Ms. Fenske visited third, fourth and fifth grade Schofield students this month for classroom guidance. Ms. Fenske introduced herself and discussed the roles of a school counselor. Each student received a flyer with information to take home to his or her family. Students decorated a portfolio that will be used throughout the year for guidance lessons. Portfolios will be sent home with students in May to chronicle their learning for the 2016-2017 school year.

Ms. Fenske and Ms. Pietruszynski will begin meeting with small groups of students in October. These groups will be created and organized, based on information provided by families at the beginning of the year. As always, please feel free to contact Ms. Fenske or Ms. Pietruszynski with any questions or concerns regarding your child at the following email addresses:
