Dear Lakeside Community,
Happy Friday!
Reminder that tonight is a Parcel Tax Study Group Meeting from 7-8:30PM. We value your input as a resident of the Lakeside Community. Please come join fellow volunteers and share your ideas to help create a winning parcel tax measure in 2017. It is our job to get the full story – and your feedback is part of that!
Childcare will be available at Clubhouse during the meeting for a nominal fee AND Clubhouse is providing food for students.
Congrats to the 5th graders who earned more than $240 in snack sales at the Back to School Picnic and Movie Night. And a huge thank you to both PTA and Foundation for hosting our event and the root beer floats. It was a full room in the Community Center for Monster's University. Can't wait until next time!
Huge kudos to former Lakeside parent Michael Gull and Susan Ady who helped from start to finish with our BIIG Grant that expanded our internet coverage. It was a looooong, arduous process. Michael was recently able to get an additional
$10,000 contributed to a new firewall that we needed to accommodate our newfound speed. We're grateful for his leadership...and the Lakeside way is one where your child can move on, but parents....you can never leave! :)
We need two more parents to serve on the
School Site Council that we are resurrecting. Sara Anderson was already a parent member, and Karen Greentstein is our staff representative. Our tasks are minimal, since we have no discretionary funds for the team to oversee. Our main role will be implementation of the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). Can you attend 3-4 total meetings this year during school hours? If so, please consider joining us. Email me
HERE. Thank you!
Reminders about toys and money - please do NOT let your children bring them to school unless it is a day when Student Council is having the Student Store (money then permissible), and we will provide plentiful reminders. Here's what we are encountering, so you know why this is a problem:
- students are bringing toys/money and playing with them during class (a distraction)
- students are not listening to reminders from teachers to put them away (distractions = a loss of instructional time)
- students are losing toys and money (then they are upset and want to miss class time to look for them)
- other students are finding lost items and are upset when they cannot keep them
- students are bringing things to play with at Clubhouse but playing with them during school time (please take them to Clubhouse to drop off in the evening and the items can stay there so they are not a distraction during the school day)
I wouldn't have raised this issue and concern if it hadn't been a considerable problem, as noted by most staff members. Daily. Please check pockets and backpacks before school - we really need your help. Thank you from the entire Lakeside staff, including yard duties.
Another reminder that students should not be dropped off before 8 am unless you are supervising them. I know I sound like a broken record, but these reminders are for student safety. The reminders here and the information you signed off on in the "Back to School Packet" note the need for your children to be supervised by you prior to school hours beginning at 8 am when we have staff on duty. Please do not assume that if you see a few parents out there, they will be responsible to ensure your child is playing safely.
Warmly,
Dr. Lisa Gonzales
