Serra International Foundation grant applications due Sept. 30

Do you know of a worthy vocations-centered project that needs funding to help it succeed?

Let the project directors know about the Serra International Foundation!

The objectives and purposes of The Serra International Foundation are:
  • to fund programs that foster and promote vocations to the ministerial priesthood of the Catholic Church as a particular vocation to service; and
  • to fund programs of formation for men and women in consecrated religious life in the Catholic Church; and
  • to enhance the recognition of Serra International as the global lay apostolate for vocations in the Catholic Church.
The Serra International Foundation is accepting grant applications through September 30, 2016. Download a grant application here.

LA Archdiocese honors St. Junipero with new news outlet

A familiar figure appears on the art for the L.A. Archdiocese's daily digital newsletter.
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is taking to heart  the mandate of Vatican II in  Inter Mirifica , the decree on social communications,  for the Church to meet or exceed the excellence of its secular counterparts. With that in mind, the archdiocese launched "Angelus," its weekly news magazine, on July 1, 2016 -- the first feast day of Junipero Serra as a saint.

Serra is also named a patron of their new media outlet, and the name of their daily digital newsletter, "Always Forward," is a tip of the hat to Serra's famous motto (which surely all Serrans know!). Check out the LA Archdiocese's new media platform at www.angelusnews.com.

Serra Attends J.S. Paluch 29th Annual Vocations Seminar
Religious, diocesan and lay vocation leaders pose for a group photo at the J.S. Paluch vocations seminar last week. Serra International Executive Director John Liston is in the back row, fourth from the right.

Serra International Executive Director John Liston and Peter Cunningham, Affairs Coordinator for Serra's USA Council, joined other national leaders from vocation, evangelization, youth, young adult, multicultural ministries, Catholic marriage and family groups,  and religious and diocesan formation and communication organizations at the Embassy Suites Hotel O'Hare-Rosemont in Rosemont, Illinois, from August 22-24, 2016, for the J.S. Paluch 29th annual vocation seminar. The theme of this year's seminar was:  The Year of Mercy: Leadership, Mission, and Vocations.

"The Paluch Seminar brings together religious, diocesan and lay vocation leaders to collaborate and share ideas," Liston said. "It is a one-of-a-kind event and Serra is grateful to the J.S. Paluch Foundation for its support of vocations through this wonderful seminar."
