The Skokie Home Scoop - September 30, 2016

Dear Skokie Families,

It may seem hard to believe, but the time has come to sign up for our Fall Parent-Teacher conferences.  This year's conference window is between October 17 and 28.  Each team has put together a schedule based on their availability within the window.  You may click on the link below to sign up for a conference time.  Note that those advisors whom will contact parents directly to schedule conferences are in bold, and not linked to a sign-up.

The Fall conference period is a time to discuss the transition to a new grade level in the first two months of school.  Both parents and teachers provide input on any of the following:   how the start of the year has gone, work habits, stamina, what additional support may be needed, initial academic and social emotional transition and any classroom data that may be associated with the two.  Sixth grade students attend their conference with parents (as they will in the Fall when they transition to Washburne).

Please click on the link below to sign up for your twenty minute conference period.   We look forward to having you in the building, as we build support around our students together for a successful school year.  Enjoy this Fall weekend, and remember that we do not have school on Monday.  We will see you all back on Tuesday for a short week!

Most Sincerely,

Kelly Tess

**For these advisories, you only need to sign up under your advisor's last name.  Your conference will be split between both teachers, and you will visit with each individually.

CAREER DAY AT SKOKIE:  November 15, 2016

The Skokie School is excited to launch its first ever Career Day on Tuesday, November 15.  We are looking for volunteers to spend time with our students to share information about what they do for a living, and how that chosen career was inspired by a learning experience in school.  If you are interested in sharing your time and experience with us, please CLICK HERE to give us some basic information.  A member from our Career Day Committee will contact you with the details.
From The Kinetic Wellness Department

Hello Skokie Families,

We hope that your year is off to a wonderful start! We have been having fun, and being very active back in the Kinetic Wellness Department so far this year! Just a friendly reminder that as the weather gets chillier we encourage kids to bring extra layers as we will be outside for KW as much as possible! Students can bring sweatpants, sweatshirts, hats, gloves etc. These items should be left in KW lockers during the week and taken home on Friday's to be cleaned along with their KW uniforms!

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us!

Sincerely,

The Skokie KW Department

FROM THE SKOKIE/WASHBURNE PTO

Please remember to bring in your Grand Food Center receipts that you saved over the summer. Collecting Grand receipts is an easy and no-cost way for you to support the Skokie-Washburne PTO (so ultimately our schools!) and also support The Grand, a fabulous local grocery store.  It's simple, too.  Just collect and drop off your Grand receipts in the colorfully wrapped boxes labeled "Grand receipts" located in Washburne's office and Skokie's lobby.  In fact, your 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th grader can easily get involved in the process and drop off the receipts themselves.  The Grand generously donates 3% of the pre-tax amount to the PTO on each receipt collected from their Winnetka or Glencoe stores.
