I was a first-time participant in Augusta 70.3 on Sunday, and I was shocked and "undone" by your hospitality. Please know how much your Sunday morning hospitality meant to me, and I presume, the other athletes.
Where I live, "church people" have the worst reputations for buzzing cyclist or cutting them off on the way to church on Sunday morning. As a Jesus follower, this breaks my heart, for many reasons, but mostly because it paints of picture of Jesus, and the church, that is contrary to what He lived and taught.
YOU shared the love of Jesus, inviting people in regardless of whether or not they agreed with your theology. YOU lived the love of Jesus, providing for people without determining if you thought they were "worthy" of your offering or truly in "need" of it. YOU risked having your floors dirtied and your toilets stopped up for strangers who might not have even considered how long it would take you to clean up before services. YOU spent your money to give to people who were choosing a race over Sunday worship. I was so proud of the "church" on Sunday.
Thank you. Thank you for allowing me to use your restroom. Thank you for greeting me kindly at the door. Thank you for showing so many people that Jesus welcomes them, just as they are. We don't have to change to come to Jesus, but, if we hang around Him, we will be changed into more gracious people who truly love our neighbors the way He loves us.
With gratitude and thanksgiving,
Monica

An Ironman Thank You to ALL!

De
ar Saint Paul's Family,
Thank you for opening your hearts and showing love and hospitality during this past weekend's Ironman event. Approximately 80 volunteers from our parish participated by baking sweets, working at the pasta dinner, volunteering with hospitality on race morning, working at the swim gear drop, and cheering on runners in front of our church. We had over 50 volunteers who committed to being at the church at or before 5 am on Sunday morning. Ranie Neislar, Elisabeth Price, and our youth even spent the night at the church so they could volunteer at the dinner and on race day. It was an amazing outpouring of support and offered with love and enthusiasm.
Our church was filled this weekend with athletes and spectators from all over the world. We have received so many words and messages of thanks for opening our doors and for the warm welcome and many kindnesses shared.
Special thanks to George Barrett, Charles Duchscher, and Anita Tanner for serving as team captains for our volunteer events and to our dedicated clergy and staff who worked so hard to help make everything run smoothly.
Rick Murphy, an athlete from Atlanta wrote, "Saint Paul's is awesome, not just the pasta dinner and opening up soooo early in the morning with coffee, but offering a great place to reconnect with your long-distance Augusta friends. It's one of the reasons this is my favorite race. Spreading the love!"
And that is it in a nutshell....spreading the love! Thank you for the love that you shared and for serving as the hands of Christ. You are the best and we celebrate being part of such a beautiful and vibrant church family!
With love and gratitude,
Kim Butler and Terry Johnson
