From Colorado Succeeds: Colorado Succeeds led a delegation of twenty-five chamber and industry association leaders - representing every county of Colorado - to Washington D.C., in late September to meet with elected officials, diplomats, and national experts on key education issues and opportunities during an intense three-day trip.
"Education is the single most important issue we should all be focusing on and it isn't getting the attention is needs or deserves," said Sen. Michael Bennet during a meeting with the delegation at the U.S. Capitol. "We need business and civic leaders to reinsert education into the conversation."

According to a Business Roundtable/ Change the Equation survey, 98 percent of CEOs report that finding candidates with the competencies and training to fill open positions is a problem, affecting all skill levels needed - from entry level to the highly technical.

From National Small Business Association: This week, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) released a new online resource center designed to help small-business owners comply with the laws enforced by EEOC.
This new resource tool comes on the same week the EEOC is expected to release a final regulation that will require businesses to disclose extensive data on diversity and compensation. The agency
estimates that the proposed rule will increase the annual cost associated with completing an EEO-1 report by $25 million nationwide, and will also impose a one-time compliance cost of $27 million. The EEOC says the rule will help the agency identify pay discrimination patterns.

From Job Creators Network: JCN's "Bring Small Businesses Back Bus Tour" stopped into Chandler, Arizona on Tuesday, September 27. The team was joined at the event by Arizona's own Governor Doug Ducey, who has recently been selected as national honorary chairman.
The tour was also joined by a surprise guest, the world famous former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich. Guests spoke at the event about the problems facing American small businesses today, and the strides Arizona and Job Creators Network are taking to fix those problems.

Manufacturing Day is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. Although Manufacturing Day officially occurs on the first Friday in October (this year, it's next Friday, October 7) any day can be a Manufacturing Day.
Companies and community organizations should plan their events on the date that works best for them and their community. Any day of the year can be Manufacturing Day. All events should be registered on this site no matter what date they are scheduled. The Third Annual "Beer Flights" beer garden is back at Denver International Airport for the third year in a row. This popular event coincides with worldwide Oktoberfest celebrations and the Great American Beer Festival in Denver and brings a taste of Colorado brews to the airport.
"'Beer Flights' allows us to showcase Colorado's outstanding microbrew industry but also recognizes our close friendship with our sister airport in Munich, the home of Oktoberfest," said airport CEO Kim Day. "We invite beer lovers - whether travelers or neighbors - to stop by our outdoor plaza and sample some of the best beer available this side of Bavaria."

- Clinton and Trump on Space: Clinton supports human Mars exploration. Presidential contender Hillary Clinton pledged support for the human exploration of Mars in response to a questionnaire fromScienceDebate.org. Clinton did not elaborate on possible changes to current strategy that calls for a human presence in the Martian environs by the mid-2030s. Rival Donald Trump expressed support for a strong space program, but did not elaborate on Mars as a goal.

Secure Futures Colorado is a non-profit advocacy initiative to advance substantive reforms of Colorado's public employee retirement system. The initiative is built around four principles:
ensure retirement security for public employees;
add fiscal responsibility and solvency to the system;
expand transparency; and
support a system that fits the employment patterns for younger, future generations.
Secure Futures Colorado is hosting a roundtable discussion at COBRT on October 25, and you're invited.
