New Peru Scallops
Samuels is now offering new tasty scallops sure to satisfy your taste buds! Wild Peruvian Bay Scallops are sweet, fragrant, and have a buttery taste with a creamy texture, similar to Nantucket Bay Scallops. They sear beautifully and are ideal for pan-frying, sautéing, or as ceviche. Peruvian Bay Scallops are diver caught off the bottom of the sea floor, causing no damage to the environment and with no by-catch of other unwanted species. Peruvian Scallops are fresh and sold by the gallon at a 40/60 count. This is a great value! Peruvian Bays are harvested, hand shucked, and shipped the same day.

Local Updates
Big and mighty 300 pound plus Swordfish are being caught in world famous Grand Banks and coming straight to Samuels.  You have to see the bloodline and fat content to believe it! It's the prime time of the year for these favorite fish.  Fall is the prime time for many local and wild fish. Our recommendations this week include Fluke, Porgies, Bluefish, Boston Mackerel, Squid and Tilefish. The Rhode Island Wild Striped Bass season recently came to a close, we're currently bringing in fish caught off Long Island and Montauk, New York.  Catch is limited and we're anticipating cooler water temperatures  that will push this migratory fish further south.  The Black Sea Bass season in Rhode Island is also approaching a closure, we look forward to areas such as Virginia being able to provide us beautiful Black Bass.  Your sales rep always has the latest updates on what we have in house and the latest catch updates.  The fall season is the midst of when Hardshell Crabs are the heaviest, the fattest and a terrific value.  Come get yours.


Worldwide Market Updates
Knowledge is power and staying prepared is always an advantage.  We recommend keeping in touch with your sales rep to stay supplied during worldwide limitations on certain wild caught seafood.  Due to a poor Mahi catch in several Central and South American countries, Mahi imports to US are at their lowest in 5 years.  We're staying supplied with fresh Mahi as best as possible and if you're a frozen fan, we know you'll enjoy Cobia, Corvina or Swordfish portions.  We hope a season opening for Ecuador later this fall will ease the market. 

Indonesian Crabmeat has also experienced slow production, we have this highly demanded Crabmeat available and also recommend our full line of Chinese Blu Brand Crabmeat. 

 Chilean Sea Bass has been a hot topic the past several weeks.  Extremely high demand in Asia with fewer vessels at sea caused a decrease in availability.  As always, Samuels has the best Chilean Sea Bass on the market and there are always other exciting options to try such as Nordic Cod.  Keep in mind, we have a large selection of the best seafood and your sales rep is trained to give you the best options to keep you on top!   

Special Mushrooms

Mushroom aficionados out there rejoice! Porcini and Matsutake Mushrooms are now in season and available for special order! Porcini Mushrooms are mycorrhizal, meaning they have a symbiotic relationship with the surrounding plant roots. This does limit their growing habitat, however Porcini are earthy, rich-tasting mushrooms with a delicious nutty flavor. They only have a two-week season, so don't miss this chance to order some for yourself! Matsutake Mushrooms are prized in Japan as a delicacy. They have a strong, intense smell often described as "spicy" or "cinnamon like". Matsutake Mushrooms are firm and chewy, and are perfect for stuffed mushroom dishes.
