Project Welcome Home (PWH) is excited to be coordinating an Art Show featuring Combat Paper with the JCCNV's Fine Arts Department that will  be in the Bodzin Gallery from mid-October through mid-November.  Combat Paper recycles old military uniforms into paper and participants then make the paper into a meaningful art object.  Look for a reception featuring the artists with dignitaries.

LOOKING for a  place to celebrate the THANKSGIVING holiday? If any of our PWH would like to celebrate the holiday with another family, please contact Sara Astrow - many of our J members would love to host a military family!

If you are currently serving in the military, or have recently transitioned out of the military and want to be involved in Project Welcome Home's programs and events,  please contact Sara at [email protected]. She would love to meet you!

Did You Know?
The oldest man alive in the world, according to Guinness World Records reports, is an Israeli named Israel Kristal, at the age of 113 years old.
Israel was born in what is now Poland in 1916, and due to losing his parents and economic struggles, never had the chance to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah at the age of 13. After going through the horrors of Auschwitz death camp, and losing his wife and children, he made an Aliya to Israel, built a new family and now has children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Last week for the first time, he had his first Bar Mitzvah.  View the full article click HERE

I wish you all Shana Tovah (Happy Jewish New Year) with a year filled with celebrations and happiness.

Join Our List
Dear Friends,

Shanah Tovah (Happy New Year),

This beautiful month of October is filled with amazing Jewish holidays - from the sweetness of beginning a New Year (Rosh Hashanah) to the reflective day of Yom Kippur, followed by the celebratory holiday of Sukkot (harvest celebration) and the excitement of Sh'mini Atzert and Simchat torah (celebration of the completion of the reading of the torah).

Reading with children about the important things in life -- like family, forgiveness, togetherness, thankfulness and basic needs -- is a great activity during Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Simchat Torah. We hope you find the resources at the left helpful.

This month, Growing Jewish Families will be:
  • Building sukkahs (small huts with open ceilings)
  • Shaking the Lulav (palm fronds) and Etrog (citrus)
  • Braiding challah
  • Playing and learning together

From escape room mysteries to mom's dinner out, from challah braidings to story times, from fantastic dinner topics to exciting new classes, there's something for everyone this month with GJF.

Your Growing Jewish Families family wishes you:
  • Shanah Tovah (Have a good year)
  • G'mar Tov (Have an easy fast)
  • G'mar Hatimah Tovah (May you be sealed for a good year in the book of life)
We look forward to seeing you soon!
