Economic Development
Candidates share their vision for Chester County
Candidates running for public office graciously participated in the Chamber's Town Hall Meeting, held September 22nd at the Fort Lawn Community Center.  Moderator Lucas McFadden used questions submitted by Chamber members to drive the night's discussion. Jobs, taxes, county growth (industry, business, residential), law enforcement, and education were all topics covered--and all issues that will affect economic development.

An extra special thanks to Libby Sweatt-Lambert and the Lewisville High School JROTC cadets for setting up the community center for the night.
Congratulations and GOOD Job!

The United Way of Chester County kicked off its annual fundraising campaign this month and announced its 2016-2017 goal of $200,000.00.  Director Kristin Fairfaix also awarded the prestigious Pacesetter Trophy.  Chamber member Chemtrade Logistics (team pictured below) raised more than $200 per employee and took the annual award!  Chamber Partner TruVista Communications' employees were also recognized as they donated more than $14,000.00 to the United Way campaign.  To get the 2016-2017 drive started, the Springs Close Foundation generously donated $35,000.00 and the Chester Healthcare Foundation gave $2,500.00.  Wow!  Join these leaders in giving to United Way.  All money helps families and organizations in Chester County.  Contact Kristin for more information: [email protected]

Duke Energy is partnering with DonorsChoose.org to help South Carolina teachers develop projects that enhance childhood literacy and foster a growing interest in science and technology fields.   Through a $200,000 matching gift, the Duke Energy Foundation is teaming up with teachers to turn these classroom projects into a reality.   Here is how it works: Teachers in your district can submit proposals for projects related to literacy or science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) for up to $500 to DonorsChoose.org, where the public can provide funding.
The Duke Energy Foundation will match, dollar-for-dollar, all donations made toward eligible STEM and literacy projects at k-12 public schools in the company's South Carolina service area, up to $250 per project. That means the $200,000 matching gift will truly have a $400,000 impact on students in the state.   Teachers can visit  www.DonorsChoose.org/teachers  to submit a project. Qualifying projects already posted to the site will automatically be eligible for Duke Energy's matching funds.   Parents and other members of the community can contribute to these projects through  www.DonorsChoose.org  and search projects by either school name or project category: STEM or literacy.   You and I both know our children are the future leaders of our communities, and it is imperative that we contribute to their success. I hope you will share this great news with the teachers, parents and fellow leaders.  Let's get as much money as we can for our region!  - Richard 'Rick' JiranVice President, Duke Energy - South Carolina
