PRESPER

Dear Members & Egyptian Arabian Enthusiasts,

I am proud to speak on behalf of the Board in saying thank you to our members for their support and making the 2015 Event such a special celebration for the Egyptian Arabian horse. The Pyramid Society staff, show staff, committee members and all the volunteers did an incredible job making this a very successful and memorable Event. I must individually recognize Lisa Cifrese as Show Chairman and Jill Spizale as Volunteer Coordinator for their exceptional efforts. Of course, the Event is dependent on the generosity of our premier sponsors, Judy Sirbasku of Arabians LTD, Al Rayyan Farm, Mohammed J. Al Marzouq of Bait Al Arab and Ken & Karen Shutts of Lone Star Arabians LLC.

There were numerous changes to the Event this year, one of which was the format for the Saturday morning Membership Meeting. The Board appreciates those members who joined us to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the Pyramid Society as we move forward. We will continue to use this Membership Meeting format in the future as a means to share information and gather feedback.

As we look forward to the 2016 Event, I know each Board and Committee member is already making notes for suggestions and improvements.  Watch for a new and revised survey coming later this year to elicit further input. These will be reviewed very carefully by our staff and Board of Directors in our continued efforts to enhance both our organization and our Event.

Sincerely,

Bob Miars
President

THE STRAIGHT EGYPTIAN ARABIAN HORSE STUD BOOK

We are waiting in excited anticipation of "The Straight Egyptian Arabian Horse Stud Book" scheduled to be released at the Breeders' Conference in August. Board member Omar Sakr has provided the leadership and Sheikh Khalid Bagedo has sponsored the publication that will provide the foundation bloodstock for the Straight Egyptian Arabian through 1969, when The Pyramid Society established the definition. This publication will provide Straight Egyptian breeders an indisputable and unequivocal reference tool for confirming Straight Egyptian Arabian bloodlines. A special note of gratitude is extended to both Omar and Sh. Bagedo for their efforts in making this publication a reality.

THE PYRAMID SOCIETY'S INAUGURAL MILESTONE AWARD PRESENTED IN HONOR OF ALBADEIA STUD

The art of breeding Arabian horses is one of patience and perseverance and few have the fortitude to dedicate a lifetime to the endeavor. In 2015, The Pyramid Society's board agreed that the time had come to initiate a series of awards to recognize those who have devoted their lives to breeding the Straight Egyptian Arabian.

We are proud to announce that Albadeia Stud of Egypt was awarded the inaugural Milestone Award during a special ceremony at the Egyptian Event on the evening of June 5th at Spindletop Hall. This award celebrates 80 years of a continuous breeding program of Straight Egyptian horses; an accomplishment that is unrivaled in the world today.

It was in 1935 that Ahmed Marei purchased two fillies from the Royal Agricultural Society of Egypt and began the breeding program.  As the years went by, Albadeia Stud grew and prospered under the direction of Ahmed Marei's son, Dr. Sayed Marei. In 1990, Dr. Nasr Marei assumed full responsibility for the Albadeia breeding program. Now in their eleventh generation, Albadeia horses have been exported to over 17 countries and have garnered championships around the world.

Along with his father and brother Hassan, Dr. Marei was a founder of the Egyptian Breeders Association, serves on the Executive Committee of ECAHO, and is a life member of WAHO and The Pyramid Society. He is an indefatigable judge with more than 200 shows on five continents to his credit, including judging the World Championships a record number of times. In addition to his breeding program, Nasr has helped popularize the straight Egyptian Arabian through his stunning photography found in numerous books, publications and films.

It was an honor to have Dr. Marei with us at the 2015 Egyptian Event as the recipient of our first Milestone Award, presented in recognition of Albadeia Stud's 80 years of breeding Straight Egyptian Arabian horses.

WE WANT TO FEATURE YOU IN OUR NEXT PYRAMID SOCIETY YEARBOOK

The Yearbook is designed to capture a snapshot of the key activities, gatherings, seminars, conferences, special occasions, show wins, and community outreach efforts that our members have been involved in throughout the past year. And YOU are the journalists! Think about what will make a good story when you're planning and participating in activities throughout the year!

Items for consideration in the Yearbook, published in the December issue of the Arabian Horse World, will be accepted through October, 2015.

Here are some helpful tips for things to do and not do if you want your member news to be considered for the next Yearbook:

DO...
  • Take and send us pro-quality, high-res photos (at least 5x7in at 300dpi)...
  • Consider hiring a professional photographer for larger gatherings...
  • Consider getting the "high-res, for print" rights to your Show Win photos...
  • Gather and send us some quotes (first-hand accounts make stories more interesting)...
  • Make note of the key details - what, when, and where; who and how many attended?
  • Be on the lookout for those "special" moments - something memorable - something exciting...
  • For seminars and clinics - what were the "takeaway" messages?
  • For presentations and shows - who were the "standout" horses?
  • Remember, to actually send us your news - just email it to info@pyramidsociety.org...
DON'T...
  • Use a cell phone as your primary camera...
  • Just send us an ad - we're looking for a story! Take us somewhere...
  • Only talk about your horses; we know they're great! We want to know what you're doing...
  • Send us something that can't be edited or condensed, if needed...
  • Assume we know who you're talking about (please, identify the We's, He's, She's and Me's)!
  • Submit news that isn't primarily about Straight Egyptian or Egyptian-Sired horses/programs...
  • Forget to send your news (we don't know if you don't tell us)!
Remember - we can help you write your story, but it's up to you to send in the content. Members make it happen - and that's YOU!
