FROM THE MODERATOR ...

THE FOLLOWING IS AN INVITATION TO ALL CHURCH MEMBERS . . .

Last Tuesday evening our Council of Ministries (CoM) determined that it is now time to begin a PASTORAL SEARCH PROCESS. We have been "in transition " for almost 11 months. Searching for and welcoming our interim pastor, the Reverend Duncan Miller, appreciating his pastoral presence and skills, as well as engaging in our Core Values process have all been important endeavors preparing us for our next step.

Our pastoral search process will begin with the appointment of a Pastoral Search Committee. Pine Street Church By-Laws Section 6(a) provides this guidance: Upon vacancy of a pastoral office, the Council of Ministries shall appoint a Pastoral Search Committee composed of as many members as deemed necessary and which is widely representative of the total membership of the church.

In forming a Pastoral Search Committee, it is the goal of the Council of Ministries for the search committee to be comprised of and representative of a broad spectrum of our congregation. If you feel a call to serve on this important committee, please contact me soon at [email protected]. Our deadline for receiving member nominations is Friday, October 7. All nominees will be considered, and the formation of the search committee will be finalized by the Council of Ministries at its October 18 meeting.

Thank you so very much for prayerfully considering your role in this very significant task on behalf of Pine Street Church and her future!

Grace and peace,

Larry VanSpriell
Moderator,
Council of Ministries

A Word From The Pastor...

"For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope."
(Jeremiah 29: 11)

I know you will agree with me when I share that Larry's announcement of the formation of a Search Committee is exciting news. Even before the actual members have been selected I invite you to start praying for this important committee. As you are aware, the discernment and selection of future pastoral leadership in a congregation is one of the most important decisions a congregation makes. The committee will need both the congregation's support and patience. It is not the task of the Search Committee to select a candidate which the congregation will hire. It is the task of the Search Committee to discern who God is calling to the congregation, and to put that candidates name before the congregation for a final call.

As your Interim Pastor I want to affirm the CoM's decision that the congregation is ready to begin this important journey. As I have shared before, one of the most important strengths of Pine Street Church is your desire to be the Body of Christ in Boulder,CO. That desire is born both form faithfulness and commitment. It is a blessing to be with you on this journey.

In Christ, Duncan

Memorial for Scotty Scott

After worship on October 2, there will be a memorial service for Scotty Scott. AB Women's Ministries will be providing a light luncheon reception and would appreciate donations of food items, including salads, a veggie tray, fruit, dessert bars or cookies, etc. If you can contribute toward the meal, please contact Barb Schuttenberg, <[email protected]> or 303-817-4325. Thank you.

WANTED:
Someone willing to sew strips of cloth together to make bandages for Congo. These are vitally needed by the missionaries there. The strips are already torn into 3" widths ready to be sewn together. Then they will be measured into 10 yard strips and we will roll them on October 30th after church. This is a fun activity and we love to have the participation of the congregation. But they need to be sewn together before that time. Please call Judy Rothe at 303-494-0714 if you would be willing to sew a few strips together. It is very easy, but takes a little time to get them sewn.  Thanks and we hope to hear from you.

Did You Know that this Did You Know Article in the Weekly Update will become a weekly article. If you know of something going on in the life of the congregation, or something going on in the life of someone in the congregation, which you think others should also know, please let. Rev. Miller know.

Missions Update

Our Church's ABC-International Ministries "World Mission O ffering"

We'll continue our church's "World Mission Offering" (WMO) this Sunday to receive donations for support of the missionary ministries and program
s of our American Baptist-International Ministries organization. As Mary Beth Mankin talked about during last Sunday's service, this year's theme for the WMO is "On Earth As In Heaven: Focus on Cuba". During this Sunday's service, Carol Simpson will be giving us another short message about the WMO. Please note that for WMO donations made through this Sunday will be used for the ABC-IM "I am IM - WMO" special offering that'll match WMO donations made after September 30. Our WMO church-giving goal this year is $2500, and so far we've collected $995. To make a cash or check donation to the WMO, please use the special WMO envelopes in the pews, where checks should be made out to "Pine Street Church" with a check-note of "WMO donation". Thanks for your support of the World Mission Offering!

Sign Up to Walk in this October's Boulder CROP Walk

This year's Boulder County CROP Walk will be held on Sunday, October 16 starting at the Heart of Longmont Church (350 11th Avenue, Longmont). Pledges raised by CROP Walk walkers will be distributed as follows: 75% to Church World Service to help feed hungry people in poorer countries; 24% to our Boulder County Community Food Share to feed need people in our community; and 1% to support the "Bread for the World" organization that works to pass hunger-relief legislation in the U.S. Congress and state governments. Last October's Boulder CROP Walk raised $33, 422. During the next few weeks, we need members of our church to sign up with Debbie Setlock to be CROP Walkers who'll then be seeking pledges for them to walk either a 1-mile, 2.7-mile, or 5.8-mile course in Longmont on October 16. Last year, our church's CROP Walk Walkers raised $980 in pledges, and we're hoping to reach $1000 this year. Thanks for your support!
