Constitution Day Celebration on Saturday
Milford High School students are hosting a Constitution Day celebration at Miami Meadows Park this Saturday, September 24. The program will take place in the Spirit of 76 section of the park from 10:00 am to 12 noon. The event is open to the public and perfect for students of all ages.

In honor of Constitution Day, Mrs. Anna O'Neill's American History students and Mrs. Sherry McCamley's drama students are putting on a living history program with actors playing the  roles of the founding fathers and mothers. Some of the actors will be circulating and mingling with visitors, and other students will be giving formal tours throughout the monuments of the park, which were donated by Milford students. Colonial games will be set-up in the parking lot and pocket Constitutions will be handed out. Colonial music will also be played by Milford High School musicians.

Come out and support our talented high school students as they make history come to life.

Congratulations to our Three National Merit Semifinalists
Three Milford High School seniors have qualified as National Merit Semifinalists--Miranda R. Kunes, Brennan J. Dodds and Amanda J. Lee.

These seniors earned this distinction based upon their score on the PSAT taken during their junior year. It's quite an accomplishment! Less than 1% of high school seniors in the nation are named semifinalists.

" We are incredibly proud of what these scholars have accomplished. To be recognized as National Merit Semifinalists is a testament to  the hard work and talents of these young people and to the rich and rigorous curriculum of Milford High School," shared Mr. Josh Kauffman, MHS Principal.

Milford Releases New Quality Profile
Milford Schools is proud to present the fourth edition of the Quality Profile, an overview of what makes our district unique with highlights of the quality education and services offered during the 2015-2016 school year.

"The Quality Profile is a great reflection of who we are as a district from our amazing STEM offerings to our stellar creative and performing arts programs. It not only showcases our academic offerings, but the service learning and community service programs that make our district stand apart," said Milford Superintendent, Nancy House.

Milford is one of approximately 70 school districts throughout Ohio releasing a Quality Profile, a comprehensive, community-oriented companion to the state's Local Report Card. The profile includes additional accountability measures that better define a high-quality education and are not included in the state's report card.

The Quality Profile helps characterize the overall educational value of public education beyond standardized testing. The content is based on six categories: academics, arts, fiscal stewardship, parent and community involvement, student leadership and activities, and student services.

Boyd E. Smith Teacher Named Warm 98 Teacher of the Week
Congratulations to Boyd E. Smith teacher, Mr. Steve Holden, who was nominated by a parent as the Warm 98.5 teacher of the week. He was surprised by Bob and Marianne from 98.5, who read the letter of nomination and gave Mr. Holden a gift basket from Modern Office Methods, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra tickets and a Westshore pizza party for his class.

Mr. Holden was nominated by Gina DeBlasio, and she said, " I had a lot of anxiety about Lily mainstreaming after attending a school for deaf children for six years. Mr. Holden almost immediately alleviated much of my anxiety and let me know that he was truly vested in Lily's success in school. It's obvious how much he cares for all his students, and his enthusiasm for teaching is quite evident."

New Schools Celebrated and Dedicated
It was a packed house at the community open house and ribbon cutting ceremonies of the new Charles L. Seipelt Elementary and Boyd E. Smith Elementary Schools. Both dedication ceremonies were held the week of September 12.

Mr. Charlie Seipelt was on hand to cut the ribbon of the school
named  in his honor and Mrs. Jean Smith, widow of Boyd E. Smith, had the honors at the building named for her late husband.

"We are very grateful for our beautiful, new school that will allow us to continue our Seipelt traditions in this new location," said Seipelt Principal, Sarah Greb. "
One thing that made the Cromley Drive school so special was the fact that it was a location that held many fond memories for generations of Milford families. We are excited for our new home at 900 State Route 131 to begin to be a place that can create those same kind of memories for the next generation of Milford Eagles."

At the Boyd E. Smith dedication, Mrs. Smith and 17 of her family members were on hand for the dedication. Dr. Smith was the Superintendent of Milford Schools for 20 years.

"Our new schools provide an incredible learning environment for our students. In addition, we have fantastic new playgrounds at both schools thanks to the generosity of our parent organizations and the Milford community,"  said Milford Superintendent, Nancy House.

Both Smith and Seipelt PTA's raised significant funds for additional playground equipment beyond what the budget from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission allowed. Both schools were completed on time and under budget and funded through a credit with the OFCC.
Community Invited to Give Feedback on Milford School District Facilities Plan

Milford Exempted Village School District is working on the completion of the final phase of its Master Facilities plan and is asking for community input.
An online survey has been posted on the district website at www.milfordschools.org and will remain open through the end of the day on Friday, October 14.

With the opening of two new schools this fall, all six of Milford's elementary schools have now been replaced through a shared funding model of local tax dollars and the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. Through this state program, Milford added the ninth grade wing, a secured entrance to the high school; and other renovations to the high school in 2010.

Milford has been exploring the possibility of funding the district's remaining facilities plan through a bond issue and state funding. The facilities plan currently includes the following: replacing the Milford Junior High School building; renovating parts of Milford High School that have not been updated; replacing the current auditorium with one that meets the needs of the current student population; renovating athletic facilities; and replacing the Milford Preschool.   The Milford School Business Advisory Council recommended seeking additional community and business partners that could further reduce the total cost of the project and the cost to the taxpayer of a potential bond issue.

The district has a 70-person Community Advisory (CAC) Committee studying this facilities plan. The committee is participating in a visioning process to learn about and discuss the educational facilities that will be necessary to support teaching/learning in the 21st century. The CAC will also hold a public meeting regarding the master facilities plan on Tuesday, October 25, at 7 p.m. at Milford High School. All are welcome.
