We Serve Weekend & Ministry Fair!

REGULAR WORSHIP SCHEDULE
8:15 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m.

Sermon: Rev. LeeAnn Inman
What Disciples Do:
"Rolling Up Our Sleeves-Disciples Live to Serve"

Scripture: Matthew 25:34-45

As the old saying goes, "Love is a verb."  Understanding the way that Jesus loves us and understanding the way that we are called, therefore, to love others, means that we move from good intentions to intentional actions.  One of the fundamental lifestyle markers of the committed disciple is responding to the needs of the world with sweat equity.  We prioritize our time, gifts, and resources so that we can regularly make a tangible difference in the world.  And Jesus defines the target audience for those who are eligible to receive our compassion, not by whether they share our beliefs, allegiances, or culture-those who the King designates as worthy of our help are . . . those who need help!
We Serve Weekend! Ministry Fair in the Portico.       Special Surprises in Worship! September 24/25

We are very excited to once again be engaged in a fully focused weekend of service to our surrounding community.  It is a fundamental part of our discipleship as we follow Jesus to make God's love real for our neighbors, and we are doing that in a variety of ways.

Additionally, our worship services this Sunday are focused on what it means to serve and what it means to be bound together in community.  You'll notice some special elements, bringing together ministry groups to lead us and remind us that we are all one diverse but united family working together to fulfill Jesus' call to love our neighbors and make everyone welcome.  At the 9:30 praise service, youth group members will be singing in partnership with our praise team, and at the 11:00 traditional service, representatives of our children's ministry will be partnering to sing along with our Chancel Choir.  At both of those services, the "guitar gang" is back, an eclectic group of guitarists from our congregation who will be providing acoustic accompaniment for our worship songs, and a unique multi-generational team has produced a very creative presentation of the morning's scripture passage.

Also, you will definitely want to check out the Ministry Fair taking place in the portico between the worship services on Sunday.  There will be representatives from many of our ministries (both outreach ministries and worship, communications, hospitality, and youth and children's ministries, and more.  There will be representatives on hand to answer questions, explain the vision for each ministry, and help you figure out how your gifts and talents can be put to fruitful use.  All disciples are called to serve, and all disciples are gifted by the Holy Spirit to fill a unique role in the church family.

The community engagement projects that we have scheduled this weekend include building houses with Habitat for Humanity, providing support to the Pawsitive Action initiative to train service dogs in St. Cloud, pressure washing and painting at the H.O.M.E. ministry (transitional housing for women and children) in Kissimmee, cleaning up the environmental jewel in our backyard (Shingle Creek), helping shut-ins from our congregation care for their home, providing some entertainment and a loving visit to residents at Hunter's Creek Nursing and Rehab, showing our thanks to neighborhood First Responders, and making Blessing Bags for distribution to the local homeless.  Each of these projects is designed to build lasting relationships (many of them strengthening existing ministry connections).

These projects are in addition to ongoing ministry we do with Dress a Girl Around the World, Prayer Shawls, South Street Ministry, our Meals Assistance Program, Imagine No Malaria, our church exchange partnership with St. Michael's in the Bahamas, Stop Hunger Now, All Pro Dad, the ministries supported by United Methodist Women, the four yearly Youth mission trips, monthly 4M projects, Operation Christmas Child, gift card drives for Christmas and Back-to-School, disaster response, and regular emergency benevolence provided to families in desperate need, and the dozens of ways Peace members independently engage in ministries throughout Central Florida.  It is good to be an active part of God's response to a broken world.  It is a fundamental part of who we are at Peace.  If you haven't found a way to plug in and serve, we can help.

There is no obligation to join Peace Church just because you take the class. We will be glad to have you participate and explore your spiritual gifts. The class will progress through the following steps:

Sunday, October 2nd from 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. Introductory Session: We will provide you with a copy of  A Disciple's Path: Deepening Your Relationship with Christ and the Church . You may then work through A Disciple's Path and meet with your Peace Shepherd.

Sunday, October 23rd from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Workshop and Luncheon:   We will talk in depth about our Peace family and any questions you may have as we approach your membership on the following Sunday. Lunch will be provided.

Peace Pumpkin Patch  - October 15

THE PUMPKINS ARE COMING!   The Pumpkin Patch at Peace has become a huge event in our community, which means it takes lots of hands to make it happen. The Children's Ministry needs your help. The pumpkin truck is scheduled to arrive on Saturday, October 15th at 8:00 a.m. but could very well be late. We are calling on all able bodies to give their time for the greater good of our church and church VBS programs, and help unload this truck. Remember the more volunteers the faster it goes! Plus we will have Kona Ice for sale on site for your purchasing pleasure! If you are interested in volunteering either unloading or selling pumpkins at the patch, please email Julie Chatfield [email protected] 321-689-6899 or Rostam Kondolojy (Mr. K). [email protected] 407-353-0054.
Trunk or Treat Spooktacular  - October 30

Own a home-based or small business?  Want to share your products with the Hunter's Creek area?  This year our Trunk or Treat Spooktacular will play host to the first annual Peace Halloween Crafts Fair on Sunday, October 30th from 4:00-7:00 p.m.  For just a $20.00 donation you can be a part of this blockbuster event which is expected to draw hundreds of Hunters Creek families! If you are interested in setting up a booth, please contact Sam Kondolojy [email protected]  or stop by Classroom A and speak with him personally.

It's also time to start collecting candy for Trunk or Treat This is above and beyond what people bring for their trunks.  Kids love going through the trunks a couple of times and we use this extra supply to keep our trunks full of treats.  We will be collecting any type of candy as long as it's wrapped.  Simply drop it off in the candy collection bin located in the main hallway as you enter the sanctuary.  If you have any questions, please contact Julie Chatfield at   [email protected]
Peace Annual Church Conference -  November 13

What is a Church Conference?  It's an annual business meeting held in each local United Methodist Church.  We review the church's mission, decide on our pastoral compensation package, and receive a report on Lay Leadership for the coming year, among other things.  It's all important stuff, but it sounds like a lot of boring business, right?  Wrong-it's also a celebration of our Peace vision, passion and commitment to ministry.

Our Peace Church Conference will be held in the sanctuary on Sunday, November 13th at 1:00 p.m.  Everyone who worships at Peace is invited to attend this meeting, but only members are eligible to vote on business matters.  Please make plans to attend!
Operation Christmas Child - November 13-21

The Power of a Simple Gift -
For the past ten years, Peace has filled shoeboxes with items for children, to be delivered by Samaritan's Purse.  In addition to the toys, hygiene items, and school supplies that are put in the shoeboxes, a Greatest Gift of All booklet in their native language is included.  This contains lesson materials that take children on an exciting journey through the Bible.  After completion of the materials, the child receives a New Testament.

You can fill and wrap a regular shoebox, use a plastic shoebox, or take one of the red and green boxes from the table in the back of the sanctuary. This year Collection Week runs November 13 - 21.

For more information on the shoebox ministry or how you can help, contact Becky Brashears, 407-414-8659 or at [email protected]
Dress a Girl Around the World Update

Join our "Dress a Girl Around the World" ministry this fall.  We make dresses and dolls for little girls and shorts for little boys who live in poverty around the globe. Our sewing workshops are every Tuesday morning in the Peace Youth Room starting at 9:30 a.m.

The little ones in the photo are wearing shorts and dresses made right here at Peace Church!  Our latest shipments have gone to Zambia (September) and Ecuador (October).  In the last two years we've made 1349 dresses, 567 dolls, and 428 pairs of shorts!  We've also started including little cars for the boys.

Please note we WILL NOT be meeting on Tuesday, November 8th due to the national general election and on November 15th we will be working on shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.  Come and join us for fellowship and service!  Monetary gifts are also greatly appreciated to help us purchase needed supplies.  Make donations payable to Peace UMC with "Dress a Girl" on the memo line.  For more information, contact Janice Adams at 407-240-9568.
