Dear Saint Rose Families,

This has been an exciting week.  On Tuesday we celebrated our K-8 Grandparents Day.  The event was well attended.  While our grandparents were here, they worked on a special craft with their grandchildren. This year they participated in a craft that was part of our Year of Mercy focus.  They created 350 hygiene care packets for homeless individuals in the Toledo area.  The kits included soap, tooth brushes, tooth paste, floss, a washcloth, a student designed sticker and a note of inspiration.  Thank you to Dr. Namay, Drs. Becker, Dr. Sexton and Dr. Burrow for their donations.  It was a meaningful project and I am happy that our students and grandparents could work together on this. Thank you to Mrs. Brahier, Mrs. Ferguson, and Mrs. Dansack for organizing the craft.

Tomorrow is the day for our kindergarten through 8th grade pilgrimage.  This too is a celebration of the Year of Mercy.  Our students will travel and walk through the Holy Doors of Mercy at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral in Toledo, Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey and the the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in  Bellevue, Ohio.  This is a great opportunity for our students.  We are thankful to all of the preparation on the part of our teachers and the many volunteers that will donate their time to chaperone.  Please take a moment to talk with your children at some point over the weekend about this pilgrimage. Ask what it meant to them and how it was different that an ordinary field trip.

Sincerely,

Dr. Bryon Borgelt
Principal

Former Buckeye, Tyson Gentry,
to Speak at Saint Rose

Saint Rose School is very pleased to host an inspirational guest speaker for our 4th through 8th grade students on Monday, September 26 .  Former Ohio State University football player, Tyson Gentry, will address our students between 2:15 and 3:15 in our gymnasium.  Mr. Gentry shares a message of mercy and forgiveness.  His faith led him on this journey after he was paralyzed during a Buckeye spring game.  His message is an important one for all of our students, whether they are football fans or not.  Please take a moment to view a short video from Fox Sports.  It does a nice job of summarizing his story.

School Pilgrimage

Tomorrow is the day of our school Pilgrimage.  Any families who have not signed up to chaperone may drive to the sites to meet the students there.  The pilgrims will participate in Mass, have a tour, and do related activities.  Please click herefor information from the Diocese of Toledo regarding the Year of Mercy and Holy Doors.

Please remember to send a lunch and drink with your child.
The students will be eating on the bus on the way back to school.

Grades K, 2, and 8 will travel to Holy Rosary Cathedral in downtown Toledo.

Grades 1, 4, and 7 will travel to the Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey.

Grades 3, 5, and 6 will travel to the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue.

Parents can help to prepare their children for the pilgrimage by looking at these websites and talking about a pilgrimage as a journey toward God.  Jesus is the door through whom we meet the Merciful Father.

After the pilgrimage, ask your child about their experiences.  As a family, participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation so that all of you may feel the mercy of the Father.  Together perform works of mercy within the home and within the community.
