JFCS L'Chaim Senior Services has changed its name

JFCS Senior Services Staff

In our efforts to stay at the forefront of older-adult care, we recently delved into an in-depth strategic planning process. L'Chaim Senior Services - which includes transportation, homemaking, grocery shopping, showering assistance, kosher Meals on Wheels and foot care - changed its name to JFCS Senior Services as a result.
Find out why here!

boundless compassion

Mike McCloskey

At Deikel Family AlterCare Adult Day Program, we strive to provide caregivers with respite and the peace of mind that their loved ones are being treated with respect and boundless compassion. No one embodies that more than our longtime Supervisor, Mike McCloskey.

JFCS CEO

Social media sources remind us daily of noteworthy events such as "National Ice Cream Cone Day" or "International Smile Day" (both highly connected in my book)! Hopefully, through social media and other sources, our awareness is also drawn to slightly more important events such as "Recovery Month" and "Suicide Awareness Month," both occurring in September. Governor Dayton has proclaimed September to be Recovery Month to encourage greater awareness of the value of chemical and mental health treatment, and the National Association on Mental Illness (NAMI) has brought great awareness to suicide prevention by claiming September as the month we focus on this mental health issue.  Read Judy's Column here.

It's Your Legacy

Recently JFCS applied to participate in It's Your Legacy, a newly launched program in partnership with LIFE & LEGACY™ of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF). JFCS will be focusing on having conversations with donors and long-time volunteers and friends about considering a legacy gift to JFCS and other Jewish organizations.

JFCS currently has over 50 donors we are aware of that have either left a legacy gift or have signed an intent to do so as well as nearly 280 Endowment Funds that have been established to support JFCS now and for years to come. This program will allow us to continue having these conversations with people and ensure that JFCS is here for you, whenever you need us. It's Your Legacy is a collaboration of HGF, the Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul and Minneapolis Jewish Federation.

Please join JFCS and demonstrate your commitment to the well-being of our community by making a legacy commitment for future generations. For further information or to have a conversation about a legacy gift, please contact Dana Rubin, Development Director, at 952-542-4803.

Come sing, dance and celebrate at AlterCare!
Deikel Family AlterCare, our adult day program located in St. Louis Park, needs energetic volunteers; here's how you can help--
  • Do you sing, dance or play a musical instrument? Share your talents and musical gifts with our AlterCare program participants and bring joy to their day. Flexible timing between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., M-F. This is a great way to share your love of music with older adults. Good for individuals or small groups.
  • Who doesn't love a good party? Be a birthday party host for our program participants once or twice each month! Birthday parties are a great way to recognize the uniqueness of our participants. Bring a birthday treat, lead a game of Bingo and celebrate the day! Appropriate for a group of 2-6 individuals.
To volunteer contact Mike McCloskey, Volunteer Coordinator, at [email protected]  or 952-939-1511

Make someone's day, change the world, do good - and bring your friends!

Let's talk.

Millennials want to serve. Jewish tradition tells them how. By David Eisner

Michael Eisner wrote an article earlier this month for JTA outlining four foundational lessons, grounded in Jewish principles, that provide best practices for service engagement - that is, inspiring individuals and organizations, especially millennials, to serve their communities, society and the world.

The column identifies why volunteer events and service projects offered by JFCS' NextGen program have been so popular. Many NextGen participants feel that volunteering and social service are the main way they connect with Jewish values, and NextGen provides great opportunities for them to do this. Whether it be leading activities at the annual Jewish Big Brother/Big Sister Chanukah party, assembling emergency food bags at PRISM, or supporting a JFCS program directly by attending a NextGen social event - all of these experiences allow young adults to participate in Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) in their own way.

Read Eisner's article here.

Join the JFCS NextGen Volunteer Corps Facebook group to learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities! And don't forget to register for the NextGen Fall Party, coming up on Sept. 27. Your $10 registration is a direct donation to JFCS Emergency Financial Assistance."
