Save the Date
Saturday 8 October is Bookshop Day - a day to celebrate all things bookish at your favourite repository.

Keep your eyes peeled for next week's communique, when we'll share our plans for celebrating Bookshop Day. Think: Printing . . . Prizes . . . Poetry . . . and plenty more!

Bawden's Lost Watercolours
Author James Russell has traced an amazing number of 'lost' watercolours by artist Edward Bawden for a gorgeous new limited edition book.

Bawden is hardly an unknown artist. But his pre-war work is little-known and under-appreciated; this high-quality and beautiful book aims to redress this imbalance.

Limited to just 850 copies, it offers high-quality reproductions of Bawden's lovely work, shining new light on his career and his influence.

The day-long workshop offers a chance to work with an accomplished artist and teacher, who will offer tips and techniques for creating striking pieces with paper, textiles and other materials.

Denis & Edna Healey book sale to benefit Historical Society
Denis and Edna Healey . . . with part of their extensive library

When we purchased Denis and Edna Healey's book collection, we were awed by the number of books and the range of subjects the couple collected. Their library was so large we have re-arranged the shop and barn to accommodate it. But for us the best thing about this experience has been expanding our horizons while researching the books.

We were well aware of the couple's support for the Alfriston and Cuckmere Valley Historical Society, and felt it only right to arrange a donation of more than a thousand of the Healeys' books to support the group.

This Sunday, 2 October, the ACVHS will hold a sale of the books at Deans Place Hotel, Alfriston. The sale will begin at 2pm.

Most of the books will cost just £3, with a few special exceptions.

Many of them were signed by Denis; all of them reflect the couple's intelligence and discernment as collectors. So bring along some cash and a bag, and find some treasures this Sunday! (Click here to download a poster with details . . .)
Andy Hamilton at Much Ado

A capacity crowd turned out to meet Andy Hamilton - TV writer and radio star and, now, novelist.

Andy was celebrating the publication of his first solo novel, The Star Witness. He spoke about the inspiration behind the book, the writing process and his choice to work with crowdsourcing website Unbound to fund the project. And of course he discussed his career writing for both TV and radio.

If you couldn't be there, we have a few signed copies of the £12.99 hardback available - stop by, or e-mail us to request postage details.
